Mom says she, toddler kicked off plane

I read this earlier. Sounds like the flight attendant was having a bad day and had to make it hard for this mom and her son.

I hope she gets some type of compensation for the missed flight.

I would have got kicked off to because I would proabably punched her!!!
This is absurd!!! This poor Mom!!!

Of course - there is two sides to every story....waiting to hear the rest.......
Keep us posted if possible Dru!

And no doubt, theres going to be a lawsuit. Because it caused all kinds of distress, it was based on race, it was traumatic, etc. The attendants dont have the power to turn the plane around, thats the pilot's decision. I agree that the attendant was out of line, but she isnt the one who turned it around and made them disembark. Now, fwiw, we dont know what she told the pilot.

Personally, while it obviously wouldnt be appropriate, Id love for them to remove all noisy children from my flight.

I was fired up when I read this too and had to remind myself we only heard half. I hope they follow up w/more info.

Other side of that Squid...can't tell you how many times I've wished I could move noisy adults away from my children. :o

sounds to me like this flight attendant may have had a little of the sauce while stranded at the airport ...

From listening to the mothers side it sounds horrible. I really would like to hear the flight attendents side.
FYI... to those that don't have kids, you can't shut a toddler up. If you scream at them they'll only scream louder.
As parents we want them to shut up and behave just as badly as everyone else around. But toddlers are like cute little time bombs. You never know when they are going to get frustrated and blow.

True but some parents try to at least distract the child or engage the child in another 'activity' and then there are those who just let them scream or incite the rowdy behavior more.....making more noise and more of a 'scene'....

You at least have some sympathy for the parent who tries to work with the child than the one who says "Too bad, my child can scream all he wants, we paid for the flight!"

No one said he was screaming though. He was saying bye bye to the plane. It sounds like he was just chattering. They even mentioned that at first it was funny; or something along those lines. From the story, it says that other passengers began to defend the mother and child. I wonder if we will ever hear other accounts of what happened. Accounts from other passengers who heard everything would be good. Less bias that way.

I agree with you 100%.
But isn't it funny how people that have never had to deal with a toddler seen to think you can just magically shut them up or calm them down? You do try to distract them and calm them down. But it doesn't always work.

I agree with you.

On the way back from Ohio, the second flight we were on - I almost had a confrontation with a guy about Kadin. We had just got on the plane and Kadin was getting up and down in the chair and looking out the window. He kicked the back of the guy's chair. I quickly grabbed him and explained about being more careful. A few minutes later (not left the gate yet, everyone is still settling in) Kadin kicked his seat again, but before I could say anything (including apologizing to the man) the man, turned around and said something to the effect of "do you mind please" like it was on purpose and continually. I stared this guy down for being so rude as I told Kadin to get up in his seat and put on the belt (which he did) and I with held my apology. I was like bring it on buddy. We have been up since 5 am and I am cranky and ready to go.

The lady who ended up sitting with us was so cool about Kadin and how obviously tired he was. And then he fell asleep as we were taxing to the runway. It did cross my mind to kick the guy's seat myself....just one more time. ;)

The thing is everybody thinks that they are the only ones having a rough day! Especially on a plane!

That's true. And the story says the flight attendent told the mother to shut her kid up, like toddlers have little on and off switches.
Johanna was having a good tantrum last week. I put her little butt in her crib and let her cry it out. Hubby took her out and accused me of just not wanting to bother with her. I don't think I'm a bad mother. I could see she was beyond the point of calming down and needed a little isolation!

That's not a 'bad mother', but you can't do that in a public place or a plane...

Time bombs?! Then they shouldnt be allowed on a plane at all! Thats terrorism!

You dont want her to become the baby that knows crying gets her what she wants. YOu have to let them realize that youre not going to come everytime. IF she's not hungry, dirty, or hurting, I think you should let them cry it out. I say good for you for not caving.

Good for you. The earlier they learn that crying and tantrums get them nothing the better. But you already know that - you have been there before! I remember when Kadin started the early stages of tantrums - one time I stepped over him and went into another room. He stopped quickly like "Well that didnt work" It was so hard for me to do that but a couple of times and he was done trying that. Of course he moved to different methods....lol

Preco is right - you cant just let them do that on a plane.
Last year when it was just me and him on a flight to Ohio, I was so worn out and had a headache just by keeping him busy and quiet on the flight. I was SO happy to see my parents. lol I was like "Here ya go!!!!" ;)

in defense of the flight attendant... a little benadryl certainly won't hurt a child. my doctor recommended it to help with their little ears hurting on takeoff.

not that i think the flight attendant was right, but the mother was a little over-the-top in calling it "drugging" her child... i mean, maybe it is LITERALLY, but not in the shade of meaning she meant...
