My husband and I decided to get each other new bikes for our upcoming anniversary. Anyone have any opinions of which ones are better to buy and where to get a decent deal?

We're just recreational users so we don't need anything of the competitive nature. :D

I am thinking about having my Schwinn Traveler 12-speed converted over. From what the person at the bike shop says, they just replace the tires and the handlebars and you've got a mountain bike on the same frame. Has anyone done this before?

Thanks for your help!!!

np, fixed for ya =)

btw, did you get those bikes during the last amazon friday sale? just wondering =)

Well... no... but...

The posting gave us a good springboard from which to start!

After a little research and going to about 3 B&M stores and looking on line this weekend, we made the decision to get a pair from a local Cyclery. We haven't ordered them yet, but my husand is looking at a Giant Comfort Hybrid (see how much we learned in a weekend ;) ) and I'm probably going to get a "townie" bike- they are funky looking granny bikes! I like the black and hot pink one with flames :D.

Our local store offers a lot of extras that we couldn't get online (assembly... we didn't really want to have to put the bikes together; they "fit" the bike to you and add two free tune-ups). We spent a little bit more, but we felt it was worth it.

Watch out! We'll be on the bike paths soon!
