Mushkin 512mb PC3200 400mhz 184 Pin Memory for $39.99 + Ship After Rebate

hm...i've never heard of the brand "mushkin". Is that a good rated brand?

I just bought a kingston 333mhz pc 2700 on black friday at frys for 35 dollars after rebates, so I wonder if i should return that and get this one.

Mushkin is a VERY good brand. It's Like a Lite-On, fairly generic but great quality generic brand..

Oh *Note, this type of memory is not for hardcore gamers. Mushkin has memory for hardcore gamers, not at that price tho, since when did gamers become so important to the computer industry?! ;)

oh really? hm..so what specs do you look for with ram that would go well with gaming?

and between mushkin and kingston, which one would be better?

This should work fine for gaming. Their is really not a whole heck of alot of difference between this and "Gaming" ram, besides the price.

What type of ram do you need the Kingston ram you said you bought was PC2700, and this is PC3200.

uh yeah, well, i'm not really pc literate so i don't know the different between a 2700 and a 3200, I have a P4 2.8ghz processor, that's all i know..

. i think it can handle either , but i'm not sure if it's worth returning that kingston and waiting a month to get this online order in. Plus, i've never dealt with rebates from online purchases before so i don't know how smooth they go.

Before buying any RAM or other components for your rig you need to make sure your systems will handle it.

This is a handy utility that will give you all your specs, its called Everest.

Just dl and run. Go to the summary page and it will list all the h-ware. To the right of the list some of the items will be blue. IF so, click on it and will give you a site to check the specs and also a site to check for driver updates.

Regarding the "Gaming" RAM. What little I know about it is the CAS number you want to be as low as possible. I would suggest you google for it. IMHO only the "Hardcore" will notice any difference, and that's mainly when the are running benchmark tests and want to show off the speed of their rigs. :)

Hope this helps.

Looks like the latency (CAS) is 2.5 on this. That's pretty good unless it's a typo. Maybe someone could find a product link on the manufacturer's website; I couldn't.

dont ever mix a PC2700 with a PC3200... I mean your computer will RUN and they CAN run but you're just not fully ultilizing your ram if you['re using a PC2700 with a PC3200... your PC3200 will just go down in performance. But if you do have a PC2700 and a PC3200, I still think you should place them both... it'll be like having two sticks of memory running at PC2700 each.

oh okay because my old ram module was a 2700 512mbi think, and now with this.....it's either a kingston 2700 or this mushkin 3200 combined....but if it will downgrade, i guess it's not worth the hassle of paying 5 additional bucks plus driving to the place and returning it and waiting for this thing to come in the mail.

Mushkin is a great brand. I'm still using my high end PC2100 512mb.. still runs great. I plan on getting dual pair of their PC3200 at a later time.

I order the $40 dollar Muskin memory cuz i can always use an extra stick for future system for either family or one of my clients. Its rated cas at 2.5 which is better than the Crucial memory equivalent at a better price.

I'm pretty much buying pieces to build a computer little by little to replace my mom's or gf's PC.

pc 3200 is the standard common memory right? i don't want to store up pc 3200's now, and then find out that people are going after stuff higher......what's the highest right now anyways in the market?

Not sure what you are trying to figure out, there is no such thing as "Standard/Common" memory. Right now there are so many different PC's running so much different memory, that it is impossible to have a standard. Right now I believe the higest is PC5300

Here is a page with a little memory information.

Crucial is awesome with performance memory. There really is not "standard common memory" currently. It all has to match with your system. It's BEST, but not extremely important if you match the mhz for the following, your CPU with your APG with your RAM. Now if you don't, that's fine. But that's optimal. So for example you have a P4 2.4ghz running with a 400mhz FSB, it's best if you're running your RAM at PC3200, 400mhz frequency, and setting an APG to run at 400mhz also.

Months ago, 400 mhz was the optimal frequency because the majority of the people had 400mhz FSB running for their CPU. So PC3200 was optimal for that Frequency, now things change. You have P4 3+ghz running at 800 FSB with HT, so you can use RAMBUS if you wanted to optimise performance... and etc...

I know that I read somewhere that you should not clock your frequency for RAM or APG over the frequence where your CPU is running at. Your motherboard should also give you selection criterion as well. Your system should run the best when your frequencies match... and always try to go Duals. Duals PC3200 with a P4 2.4ghz at 400mhz, o/c or not would run quiet well... ;)

No, Outpost is always shady like that. You can never really trust Outpost.com, they will bait you in a lot and just leave you hanging without alternatives. Also, they've been known to lower their prices and once a lot of people start buying, they'll raise it drasitcally, not just $5 or $10, but up to $50... them arses!
