I've got some sort of virus on my desktop which keeps giving me false security warnings, pop-ups, changes the home page and tool bar, and keeps directing me to an anti virus website to download for anti spyware.

**warning** for amateurs (like me) don't try and go find the website, we don't need more than one of us infected.LOL

Anywho, from what I'm gathering it's "xpantiviruspro"......I have Norton 360 running which is telling me everything is fine LOL, I did the MRT from the desktop and the site (full scan)....still no luck. Pop-ups galore! *shakes head*

If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it....BTW I'm on the laptop ;)

P.S. Spaz, please help

ummmmmmmmmmm, Good Luck? LOL I just took mine last weekend to be debuged!

nope, mine was just the too much crud and spyware proggys virus, LOL
Obviously I have gone to one too many spyware sites or some rediculous thing like that, says my husband anyway, (what does he know!?)

I may be way off here, but it sounds like spyware to me instead of a virus? Do you have a spyware removal?

it does sound like spyware if Norton isn't picking it up, I know they installed Counter Spy and Advanced Windows Care V2 on our PC personal but I am not sure where they got it

It could be spyware :noidea: Do I have programs???...I have Norton 360 LOL :noidea:

What do you suggest?

ad aware

You'll have to google it.. I'm at work and can't access the page to be able to link

Your PC is probably loaded with malaware / trojans etc.
Try an online scan at trendmicro.com to start.
The xpantiviruspro.exe is a program for virus removal so if you have a virus it's probably something else. Personally I use AVG free version for virus removal on Windoz computers. I also scan with adaware like puggirl and I use Spybot S&D regularly plus I always have Spyware Blaster running all the time too. Since installing Spyware Blaster (which is free as long as you manually update) I almost never come up with other things in the other programs.
For my real computer I just use Linux = no viruses, although I still run AVG now and then in case someone does bother making on - I don't want to find out.

AVG is great for virus removal.. I use it along with adaware.. No problems here.

Preco, I'm sending you a PM with some instructions...

1. Walk out your front door - out to the street and turn left.

2. Have you tried getting off the laptop? I am going out on a limb here, but I think you weigh more than the load weight capacity of a computer.

If you need anymore help, you know where to find me. :teeth:

Spaz is the master........;) He got rid of that nastiness for me.....I am running smooth........:driver:

I am no longer on my laptop, but somehow the laptop appears to be a bit slimmer than it was before :hmmmm2:

Well, he had me run a few logs, delete some files, run some programs, re-run logs for good measure...and here we are. If I knew exactly what I was doing I probably would not have been in that position in the first place! :p

Spaz is the master!

Although, I can't quite figure out why I had to put on the ugliest pair of my DH's slippers, stick marshmallows up my nose, draw a black mustache on my face with permanent marker while chanting, "I will not annoy the mods anymore, I will not annoy the mods anymore". But hey, I'm up and running again and that's all that matters :bigok: Spaz is the master! :proud:

What??? No dead chicken ritual?

I'm having the same problem.

I have Norton and the scan is telling me things are fine. (it doesn't have up dates-since it is expired).

I can't get to hardly any sites if they aren't in my favorites. Most sites that I try to get to, get diverted. It keeps telling me accept windows xp virus protection, and won't leave the screen.

Anybody have any ideas what to do?

:help:

I just changed my wife's virus program from AVG to Avast because AVG wasn't getting her infection (BTW - NOT yeast Preco). Per Google search Norton and others weren't getting it either. Avast handled it. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
I also regularly run AdAware http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
And Spybot S & D http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Lastly I always have loaded Spyware blaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
It's all free. The only caveat is that Avast blocked internet and e-mail access and I had to turn that block off.
