Netflix / Walmart / Blockbuster - Free Movie Rental Trials

Walmart / Netflix / Blockbuster are all providing services where you can rent movies over the mail. They all provide a "trial" time period where you can get movies for 2 weeks ~ 30 days.

Walmart - 30 Day Free Trial - $12.97/month

Blockbuster1 - 2 week free trial - $14.99 / month

Netflix - 2 week free trial - Varies / month

I might actually try this one!

split the cost with my room mate and 6 bucks a month for a bunch of movies is a LOT cheaper than renting or going to the theaters

Definitely. The prices of these services are dropping so low, I might have to start considering one for my family very soon!

I used to use Netflix back when it was $22 a month for 3 movies at a time. Even at that cost I loved the service and have been planning on getting back into it.

I prefer instore cause that ten minute turn around time is awesome.

Walmart vs. Netflix

Anyone have an opinion on who's better? I see Walmart has the $12.97 (2 at a time) vs. Netflix apparently is $17.99 (3 at a time). No big deal on one DVD. Curious though about the service and speed of getting the movies, etc.

Blockbuster is doing a 3 for $14.99 + 2 in-store rentals each month (movies OR games). That way you can always walk down to your local Blockbuster if you have that strong need to watch "Glitter" and can't wait the 1-2 days for it to be delivered.

i cant wait until amazon gets a dvd service at this rate it will be only 10 bux a month by the time it comes out

I have tried Blockbuster and Netflix. Netflix is fast. So far, for all the DVDs I have ordered, they ship it out today and it arrives tomorrow. Blockbuster is a bit slower. It comes maybe 3-4 days after they ship it out. But perhaps that has something to do with where their distribution channels are located. I just signed up for Wal-Mart. Not sure how long they take yet.

I didn't have any problem cancelling with Blockbuster after the trial period ended. But I have heard that people have had problems with Netflix. They cancelled but were still charged the monthly rate for months after their trial period. Has anyone had this problem with Netlifx or Blockbuster or Wal-Mart?

at this rate netflix is going to become the AOL of the online dvd rental world if they dont lower their prices

Speed depends on where you are & whether they have a distribution center near you.

That depends where you are....

I went back to instore renting. Love that ten minute turn around time.

Yeah, if Netflix sucked like AOL (but they don't). Also, looks like Wally World is 50¢ more per movie out than Netflix (and, in my experience, 3 is a good number, but 2 is inadequate, ymmv). As for BlockBusted, I don't know any long-term customer of theirs who hasn't, at some point, been treated with contempt by them. Bad business.

i know but so far between blockbuster and walmart blockbuster has been way faster and i live a half hour by car from the distrobution center for walmart i hope this competition keeps on going because 10 dollar a month online dvd rental sounds like its coming very soon at this rate this may become the end of traditional rental in the next 5 years i have not tried netflix yet could someone tell me how to get a one month trial

For me Blockbuster was slow until I canceled the last two weeks things picked up, Netflix seems to max me out at 12 movies a month no matter how fast I return them. I haven't tried Wally World's service and I won't. Wal Mart ewwww

Get a trial & read the return address, you can see where your local dist. center is.

the trial was soo slow i only got 10 movies on the walmart dvd rental system man does walmart suck and the distrobution center is only a half hour drive i am canceling today

Walmart was slow for me too. Blockbuster was a little faster, usually 4 days it seemed like. I dont know if its blockbusters fault or the mailman's but i got a couple broken dvds from them. Netflix was the best for me, usually 3 days except towards the end of the month it seemed to slow down to 4.

Netflix is great

I've used Netflix for so long I'm grandfathered in at 4 movies at a time. I wouldn't use Wal-mart OR Blockbuster at any price. For one thing, Netflix is the original, and Wal-mart and Blockbuster basically stole their model. Blockbuster flat out lied in their advertising about "no more late fees", if you're a week late, you bought the movie. Would you do business with them? Anyway, I've never had a problem with Netflix, super fast, never had a movie that wouldn't play, etc. I'm sticking with them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wal-Mart selection was very limited and/or the movies were edited. They impose their moral code on their music vendors, so I bet it would extend to their movies, too.

Blockbuster also does this to some extent - not to mention Blockbuster has long un-skippable ads on the beginning of some DVDs.
