Netgear 802.11g Wireless Router /w Switch for Free After Pricematch/Rebate

Circuit City has the Netgear 802.11G Wireless Router (WGR614) for $29.99 after rebates. Next week, Staples will have the same router for $29.94 with no rebates. Sounds like a pricematch opportunity.

Pricegrabber Price : $34.71 ~ $63.38 Shipped

1. Circuit City Price : $59.99
2. Choose to pickup in-stores since they are sold out online.
3. Pick up your router from Circuit City.
4. Make copies of your receipts to use for rebates.
5. Wait until 01/08/06
6. Bring a Staples ad, printed ad, or the price on their website to your local Circuit City and ask for a pricematch. Only bring your receipt for this, no rebate forms. ( Pricematch : -$30.05 )
7. Rebate1 Price : -$20.00
8. Rebate2 Price : -$10.00
Final Price : Free!

or....you could do the following:

Why go through the pricematching trouble?

This is what can be done instead....

1. Buy item at CC (register prints out 2 copies of reciepts and 2 rebates).
2. Return the item back to CC while keeping rebates and copy of reciepts
3. Next week go and buy same item at Staples
4. Cut out the UPC from item bought at Staples and send in it with CC
rebates and reciepts. :bigok: ;)

Most rebate houses have the ability to check receipts to find out if items were returned or orders cancelled thereby invalidating rebates.

I've done it before. You have to play on the "30 day return" policy. Submit rebate same day, usually they get validated within 3-4 weeks. Then, return product the last possible day of policy. ;)

CC plays both sides

Circuit City pricematches are very arbitrary, always in their favor.

They had a WRT54G for $69.99 with $25 rebates. Radio shack had the same router, without any rebates, for $49.99.

I wanted to get a $20 pricematch for CC. They said that since the price of their router including rebates was less than Radio Shack's, they wouldn't PM. I called the head office and they confirmed that policy.

Others have had similar problems: http://forums.**********.net/t22119.html

So I avoid PMing anything w/ CC (and generally avoid CC for that reason as well).

its a rebate game

You need to play game. CC store will wait for a month just to verify if you did not return the product. After that rebate is validated. I think $10 rebate is of that kind. $20 you will get.

Well, I guess I'll try PM first. Now, if that does not work.... :zip:

Price match with a credit card

Many credit cards such as Citibank and American Express will offer a price match with a purchases within a time frame. It would be nice though if a company would respect their offer to price match so you don't have to go through these additional steps. My worst experience was with a price match at Best Buy for an Microsoft MCE IR remote sold for $70.00 at Best Buy and $40.00 everywhere else. Yea, most places will price match that is until it surpasses $10.00. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't. I just don't shop at Best Buy any longer.

For this offer it will work. The catch is you can't buy the product from high priced source AFTER cheaper ones publishes the advt. I just got gold card it says so in the agreement. Is this feature only available for the Gold card or regular blue cash also works same way?

I have done PM for the last CC deal posted on spoofee, everything went through alright. The only concern i have is that on the rebate form it stayed "if the item was pricematched, they will reduce the amount of rebate". Come think of it, even though on the rebate reciept, the price is the price before PM, I think it might be possible for them to know the actual purchase price, because on every CC reciept, there's a barcode on top of it. Hopefully they can't tell..

How do you use credit cards to pricematch? do you just call them up and they just credit you the difference between 2 stores?! I've never heard of it. And, I do have American Express card. Anyone can back it up?

Does any techie know whether this Netgear model series WGR614 has embedded Linux OS similar to LinkSys-Cisco WRT54GL series wireless router?

Or whether there a good deal on LinkSys-Cisco WRT54GL model series (repackaged WRT54G Version 4 for Linux developers)? The cheapest I found is ~$70 from Amazon with a $30 promotional code if applying for Amazon VISA card.

pricegrabber is offering a $5 "rebate" for this item if you write a review for the LinkSys-Cisco WRT54GL:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/info_bonus.php?masterid=13914910

you should sign up for this

btw, buy.com has it for a little bit less ($66.99) link plus there's a 10% off coupon you could use - link. they also offer a $25 discount when you sign up for their credit card. but if you have to pay tax, then i think it comes out to about the same price as amazon.

hth

Got the PM to work at CC today. 110% of the difference is always very nice as the extra 10% covers the tax and all ;) Can't beat the FREE item!
