Netgear routers stink

If you use an ISP that requires you to register your MAC address before getting a valid IP address, don't get a netgear. The first thing a netgear does before allowing the user to gain internet access is to ping www.netgear.com. If it can't, it won't let you past the required setup screens. I've spent hours with 2 different Netgear routers trying to get them setup properly and failed.

i have a linksys and i am very pleased with it

why does it needs to ping netgear??

does anyone knows what other information it can or is sending to netgear?

I gave in and went and bought this router from Bestbuy. It was an easy install and my laptop picked it up in no time! I suggest anyone who collects bestbuy bucks from the monopoly game to save them up and use them. The router was on sale for $59.99 with $30 in rebates and i had $20 in B.B bucks in total getting a nice router for $15!!

Sounds like the ISP stinks too.

Why would it matter if the modem is the one with the registered MAC address?

Comcast uses registered MAC addresses for interenet, but it comes from the modem, not the router...?
