Do any of these wireless networks run under a different frequency than 2.4GHz? I have phones and monitors in my house that will interfere with it.

Sony makes some that are 5.8GHz, but they are propriatary and expensive, really expensive. Try $300 for a router. Even if you have some 2.4GHz phones, they can all run on different channels, so I'd give it a try. I've run wireless stuff in homes that have many cordless telephones at 2.4GHz before and it works fine.

i plan to buy a new computer with a wireless PCI card next week and it will be placed on basement in my house. I've already had this B router on 1st floor but i worry about the signal. Does anyone know how far the signal can go? Or with a G router the connection will get better?

B normally works out fine for me. However, I'd recommend a USB adapter, not a PCI card. I've had many PCI cards that work horribly because lots of magnetic interference that comes from the PC and the case, therefore the signal is awful and it barely works. I find that the USB adapters work better with stronger signals and better connections because you are able to move them around more and keep them away from the computer for optimal signal levels. If you're going to get the Netgear router, I'd highly suggest finding a good price on the Netgear USB adapter. I don't find it great to mix and match when it comes to wireless equipment. Ethernet equipment is fine to mix and match, wireless is more picky. I can tell you that I hooked up a family friend who has a Linksys B router on their second story in one of the bedrooms, and a Linksys USB adapter down in their underground basement, and the signal works great with 3 or 4 out of 5 bars always active, and it is a crystal clear fast connection, and their house is fairly big. You shouldn't have a problem with B equipment, I'd seriously recommend a USB adapter though, preferably Netgear.

Hope this helps... and welcome to Spoofee by the way, please let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Good stuff above. Anyone know if the G range is better than the B range or just a different frequency?

The 'G' range is faster -- 54mbps vs 11mbps. I believe the range (meaning how far you can wander from the base) is improved over the 'B' range. I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 'G' router in my home and I can go anywhere in it -- even my neighbor across the street picks up my signal.

As with any wireless product, be sure you secure the router by adding a password, removing the default SSID, utilizing encryption technology (WPA instead of WEP if you can), and enabling MAC address filtering.

Both 802.11b and 802.11g's frequency are both the same...2.4GHz. 802.11a has a frequency of 5.8GHz or was it 5.4GHz?? As for the range, I believe it's the same because on the back of this Belkin wireless 802.11g router that I have right now shows a comparision and they all have range of 1500ft with the exception of 802.11a, which is 300ft. Hope this helps...:-P
