Newbie Looking for Domain & Hosting (cheap & easy)

Hi,

I am looking for a domain and hosting services for a website. I am new to this and I want my website to have a forum, or just for forum/discussion purposes, please share with me where I can learn more about putting a forum in the website just like spoofee :) and any other information about free domain or hosting out there or with a price, I remember some time ago, we have a post about a free hosting, it has been a while, I appreciate any help!

PS: I checked out the phpbb (a forum tool) and also the vbulletin, I understand that phbb offer a free service for private use, I wonder if that the same case for vbulletin.

Also, if I use the ISP comcast, and they give me some webspace, can I just get a domain and I am all set? If yes, how does it works?

I use 1&1 domain and hosting. I've heard great feedbacks on TotalChoice Hosting.
Usually the webspace from your ISP doesn't include php, which is needed for phpBB and vBulletin. Also you need mySQL database. You need to make sure your plan has all the requirement. Cheap plans from some hosting providers sometimes don't include these, so check beforehand.

I use FuturePoint (www.futurepoint.com). I got them because I'm very big on Java development and wanted a hosting service that allows servlets and JSPs. They also give you a mySQL database, php, cgi, etc.
Very very simple to set up a bboard with them - it's a standard "power tool" that you can install yourself and have running within 10 minutes.
To use your Comcast webspace, you should be able register it through just about any domain name registrar (like www.Verio.com) and then have them point to your existing webspace.

1&1.com gets my vote, excellent service.

I use GoDaddy as my registrar, and HostDepartment for my Hosting. HostDeparment on my plan has everything for a forum!

Oh, to answer your other question... I also use Comcast. Sign up for your domain with a domain registrar that has free forwarding, then just forward your domain to your free Comcast hosting.

I think Comcast upgraded their hosting to 175MB or something lately with no bandwidth limits, so it's not bad at all. I haven't used it lately because I have a free deal with 1&1, but Comcast has great hosting as part of an ISP package.

I heard 1and1.com is really good also.. So they get my vote
