I've been trying find a previous generation, not core duo or dual core, PC for my son to take to classes everyday.

I want to try to keep it under/around $300. If I see he takes care of this one I may get him a better one next year. In other words if this one bites the dust, or gets BORROWED I can afford to get him another.

I've been looking for a cheap laptop too. I tried ebay but I've heard stories of people getting ripped off, especially when it comes to new laptops. Sure there must be some form of protection if you pay with a credit card though.
 
I bought an apple laptop for my kids on eBay. It had some problems when it arrived and the seller replaced it, no hassles at all.
