"The 2009 H1N1 pandemic continues to evolve. The rates of illness continue to rise rapidly within many communities across the nation, and the potential exists for the pandemic to overburden health care resources in some localities," Obama said in a statement.

Thunderf00t, from Youtube, has an excellent briefing update relating to H1N1. I recommend watching it (wouldn't hurt to watch some his other videos as well, although he can be a bit grandiose about some things).

Obama needs an emergency so that he can be the savior again.

Never waste a good emergency/disaster.....

we're having an H1N1 experience in our household right now. :puke:

Good luck, it doesn't sound pretty.....:nonod:

So you're saying some media (people/*cough*news broadcasters) can be 'off the wall' at times and still hold some validity? interesting.....:lost:

H1N1 doesn't have digestive issues...It's a respiratory illness.

If your heaving or hoeing- you've got another bug.

i'm wiped out fighting my 7 year olds fever since last night...good news is it doesn't look like it's the flu-regular or swine..tomorrow when i'm not exhausted i'll post what i found out from my dr. who's had 30 confirmed cases this month since the first one he got on Oct 2. 15 this week he said. And he's not a big practice, just him and another dr.

several of our friends and their kids have had it. So far, no one is any worse off than flu without a StarWars droid name.

It should be called hogfluenza

OK...it's primarily a respiratory flu, but like any other flu could hit you with a miraid of other symptoms. The 3 letters we got from school said look for a fever of 101 or more and a cough,.and then added that it could be accompanied by any of the other symptoms like poops, vomit, aches etc.

My youngest and I had already had a virus early in the week, but we had really low grade fevers that came and went overnight. When my oldest boy went to bed w/a low grade I was hopeing he'd wake up the same. He woke up at 101.7 with a cough so I called the Dr. to find out if I should be giving him a Rx for something (we usually just suffer through the flu if we get it. No chance to get our shots yet this year).

Anyway..he said the virus going around is compicating things because it's a fever, cough kind of virus. He said all the cases he had of the flu were a higher fever. Told me to look for around 102-103. And the people "hit the wall" with aches and pain etc. (my son had no aches just warm and was playing video games). He told me to do the tylenol/motrin thing and watch the fever to see if it goes up and the if the symptoms became more intense.

He said the people he saw had the high fever for around 3 days and then got through it. He reminded me it's really a type A flu like the others, but unfortunately had taken the lives of some otherwise healthy people. He called in a RX for Tamiflu but urged me not to give it to him unless it turned from virus like to definitely flu like. He said they had Rx-ed it for some people early on who took it and then got the flu a couple weeks later and found they had built up some resistance and it didn't work the way it should.

My son has asthma so I was particularly concerned because this year it's been the worst it's ever been. But the Dr. reminded me that he hasn't had to hospitalize anyone yet, and there were patients who had ashtma too.

My sons fever stayed in the 101's most of the day and he patiently put up with me asking him every 20 minutes if anything else hurt or felt sick and nothing ever did. We had a little scare late afternoon early evening when his fever suddenly zoomed up over 103 and he basically passed out into nap for a while. He woke up complaining he was dizzy but I dosed him up again and hand fed him some chicken soup and juice (forgot...dr reminded me also to push fluids)...and as quick as it zoomed up it broke and was gone. I mean gone! Like I thought the thermometor broke because it went from 103.4 to 99.0 one reading to the next. I ran around and took my temp, my other sons and even my dh's the make sure it wasn't broke, which wasn't helpful because of course ours was normal so I went and got 2 other thermometers and double checked. Go ahead, I know you want to laugh about that.

This morning he's fine. But I feel a whole lot better now that I spoke to my Dr. and have a better idea of what to look for and what to do if I see it. So that's my story. Hope it helps someone else feel better too.

Sunbeam hang in there...I'll say a prayer for your sanity! There's nothing worse then when your kids are sick.

My daughter started with a seal like cough Friday night...continuing throughout the night. She was at the breakfast table Saturday morning and was crying to sit on my lap. Shortly after, she spewed all over me and her waffles. Her temp was 102 at that point. We fought high fevers, cough, sore throat and vomit all day yesterday. Her temp was spiking to 104 at times. I don't like that...even though the docs and CDC seem to say not to treat until it's over 102. I understand the rationale, but fevers can climb quickly, and it makes me too nervous. We alternated Tylenol/ibuprofen. I was up every 3 hours (I guess not too bad) with her last night, letting her munch on ice chips and using the washcloth. She was still running 103 at 3 am. Good news is that she had some French Toast (hubby made) this morning and is sucking on another popsicle. Fluid intake also makes me nervous...thank goodness for Motts frozen fruit and these cool Crayola fruit pops I discovered yesterday. :teeth: She's at 101 right now, and I won't treat her with meds unless it goes over 102. Cybermom, thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad your son is ok now. Yeah, they aren't giving Tamiflu if the kid's not high risk, and I totally understand. I'm a little nervous I'm showing some chest tightness/junky cough this a.m. I've got asthma, and I recently got off some low dose chemo (for my joints)...that stuff hit my lungs hard, and I know my lung function is down. If I get this flu, it's gonna wipe me out! :faint: Good part of this is that these kids are able to build their own immunity to the H1N1, which is better than any shot around.

p.s. cybermom, I had to laugh about your thermometer story...we do the same thing. We have a temporal and ear thermometer....and I would check her ears about 5 times, then her head, then my head, then the cat's head....well, you get the picture.
