OCZ ProXStream 1000W Power Supply for $99.99 Shipped After Rebate

For an average consumer or even a hardcore gamer, 1000W is way too much. Even if you have quad CPU and running Nvidia 9800GTX in SLI mode, you still don't come close to that power...just a thought. Be sure you know what you're paying for.

Maybe it's for nuclear power plants?

I purchased a new higher end video card a few years ago and the default 300W supply was too low. But their 550W one worked perfect. I can't even imagine a 1000W.

Most of these new high end 1kw supplies only supply
what is needed up to 1kw.....so it operates at 500W
if that's what's called for....they put them out there
because some people like bragging rights more than
money.

Ummm... ALL power supplies only supply what is needed, up to the rating of the supply. If you don't need that much, it won't supply it. It's all a matter of Ohm's law.

If you're running a lot of hard drives (RAID systems), accessories, etc. you can come close to actually needing one of these. Hard drives can take a lot of power. I would buy one myself, but I have a dedicated storage cabinet for my RAID array that I picked up for ten dollars. And I don't have any Benjamins laying around.

I couldn't get the specs to load. Does anyone know what the duty cycle is on this one? Sometimes, the max rating is only for a few minutes or so.
