I have one of these they are very handy..
 
I bought one of these after watching a show on the History Channel about energy conservation.

Many appliances will use up to 25% of their full power when shut off (TV's home theatre). If it has a lit LED it uses power. The cool items were the remote wall socket kill switches they showed. Walk out the door and shut off power to everything you don't need running (except the fridge and some lighting/user config) with the flip of a switch. Great for Vacation homes.

Besides when my fruggle landlord wants to peal another few bucks out of my wallet for the electric bill I have an argument I can't loose. FACTS!

I bought mine at Buy.com a least a year ago for about $10- more. Good deal.
