Philips DVP642 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD Player for $55.09 Shipped

I have one of these and it works fine. Very light weight and slim. The only things I didn't like about this was the very small screen and the remote control (few buttons but still confusing and you can't even open/close the player with the remote, ugh). Other than that it's a decent machine.

i believe if you hold the stop button, it opens the disc tray. hope this helps!

The reason people buy this particular player is because it's one of the most media compatible player out there. This player will play almost any burned discs. It can be made all region capable through some setting changes with the remote. The biggest kick is this player plays divx and xvid files. Just burn your avi files onto a cd or dvd in regular data format and the player will play it. You can probably get a better video quality player for your HDTV dvd viewing from Sony or Pioneer, but those players especially Sony rejects burned media like nothing. This is the lowest price I have seen for this player, but then again it is cheap even at full price.

This is great player if you use the divx features. The player is also very easy make region-free. Takes about 5 key press and you'll have a dvd player that can play dvds from any part of the world. Also it's firmware upgradable.

The only problem I can find with the player is that the interface could be a lot better/faster and it has some problem reading some divx files that the computer doesn't have. You may get out of sync audio and video, unreadable video files and a few other problems. But this only happens with a few files.

i didnt like this player that much. the video looks fine..the divx plays fine..but it doesnt do anything particularly well. menus are clunky and slow, and the remote is real bad. if the remote breaks u are pretty much up a creek becaue you cant FF or RW, or navigate menus on the player itself. I would still say the player is worth looking at if you dont have something like an xbox that can play media files. There are just not really any good divx players out there at the moment. And 50 bucks is basically nothing for a dvd player that can do everything this does.

Get the new firmware for it.

Also, if your divx's look funky push the system button 2 times.

Other than that not a very relibale unit according to what I read. I agree with above the front display & front buttons are just lacking.
