Ok...so we've established our viewpoints on stamps. Here's the next brainteaser. How do we feel about our time? Is it something we give away freely or does it cost us? There are freebies that are from just a quick click through a link. There are freebies that require search time on the computer. Now granted, the end result is tangible. But, isn't time worth money? :convinced: I'm thinking, if I would just start listing more of my things on ebay (i.e. the box of stuff I know I can hock), I'd be making some extra moula. But, instead I am on here using my time to surf for more freebies (which are things I probably never would have bought with money...but I want them just because they are free).

That's a great question an I have given it some thought before -- I guess it depends on how you look at it. If you have a job and a family and searching for freebies or coupons takes away from your time from them or other things that need to get done, then it obviously is probably not worth it. A matter of free time and priority I guess. Right now, I am captain of the unemployment team, but my SSDI payment will keep us afloat for a little while. Finding freebies and being active in consumer panels is a fun game for me - and it does really save us QUITE a bit of money! But when my mom got sick, I had to be away for awhile and I wouldn't even trade a ten million dollar freebie for a minute with her!

I need a forty-hour day, and, as such, my time has to be well spent. I cannot speak for other folks, but, I have specific freebies that I search for, and, will bypass the others. With our economy, if folks can indeed use the coupons and free samples to offset their budgets, a little time spent surfing is time well spent, especially for young families. Just saved eighty-seven dollars at the store this week in coupons alone, I only use coupons for brands I like and trust. It was a good week!

So as not to create yet another philosophical question thread (per Dan's request, which is not a bad one)...here is my dilemma. Anyone wondering if the little smiley's are still scratching their heads/hugging/etc when we're not looking at them? And are they scratching/hugging/etc at the same rate for everyone, or does the speed differ on different computers? I just got off work...I'm a bit frazzled over this.

:convinced: How hot is it exactly in NC mountains right now? :sus:

Smiles not withstanding the whole freebie thing is just a game. It's entertaining for some and not so for others. Entertainment is a necessary outlet for everyone. Personally I enjoy buying and dealing and getting things free or at the absolute best price. I do it professionally and I do it in my "free time" because I find it mentally stimulating and fun.

Jerry, do you do "Yard/Garage Sales?" If I am on my way somewhere and there is a community sale going on, I usually will stop and look around. As far as "entertainment" goes, I think hunting for a freebie for some is a challenge and they seem to enjoy the same. Me? I just need shampoo and conditioner samples to make my life easier when traveling! :)

In New York City not too many people have garages (or yards for that matter) BUT we do have sidewalk sales and if I walk past one, I look. I can't remember the last time I saw something I wanted though.
I actually think that if one wanted to furnish a 1 bedroom apartment with slightly used furniture they could do it in one night in NYC. It seems there are a lot of people who remodel or redecorate or replace furniture items that aren't worn out. In NYC we just put them at the curb for trash pick up. Anything left at the curb is "fair game" here. It's one of those things like jay walking and double parking, just what we do. I have found sufficient shelves (which I use for tools and building supplies) that last week I saw a perfectly good shelf at the curb. I was tempted to grab it and then came to my senses realizing I had no place to put another one. Although I have no need, I often see tables, lamps, cabinets, chairs, leather furniture, etc... I don't like the idea of used cloth things (like couches and mattresses) that can't be easily cleaned but otherwise, why not?

Wow, that sounds like a good deal, and, no one gets a ticket for doing that up there? Shoot, just a week ago, I had this old broom and decided to put it out for my weekly trash pick up. Since it was to tall for the dumpster, I merely leaned it next to the same. I heard a rap on my door, only to find the trash collector who promptly told me "I will take the broom this time, but, if it doesn't fit into your dumpster, we will not take it!" What the hell??!?! :mmph: You watch me find stuff to cram into that dumpster just to get my point across. A stupid broom...now that is rural living for you. :) We have community yard sales, but, if you want "a table" you have to pay fifteen dollars. Shoot, most folks toss stuff out into their driveway, or front lawn and figure it is a done deal. :28:

Whack the broom on the ground/against a tree until it snaps. Do this right when the garbage man shows up next time...it could prove quite entertaining! Or get a good chainsaw - it might be easier.

NO, NO. bring it to NYC and put it at the curb. If it's at all good somebody for sure will take it.
Very few places in NYC even have dumpsters. Our trash gets picked up 3X per week (M,W,F) and we just put big black 55 gallon bags in a pile at the curb. My building usually puts out 10-20 bags at a time. As long as it's not construction rubble and regardless of size (sometimes I put old pallets out) they just crush it and take it. Friday is recycle day when we put out cardboard and bottle and cans in transparent bags. They can be a little picky about this but if there is too much trash with the cans they just leave it behind and you have to bring in back in until next time and you fix it. On Friday they send out three truck, one for each trash, boxes, metal/glass. Kinda neat. Put it out after 5:30 the night before and it's usually gone before 7 a.m.
