Hi fellow spoofee'ers. I have a friend who is interested in getting an LCD projector. She knows nothing about them and I know about a little more than that ;)

Anyway, she dosen't want to spend a lot of money on one... doesn't mind buying used, prefers actually so she can get one "cheap." She's been looking on ebay.

So a few questions:

What are lumens? (I'm gonna google it in a minute but any other cliff's notes would be great) What is a good amount to get?

What brands are good? What's a fair price to pay for a used one?

She wants to mount one to her ceiling or wall and use her wall for the screen. Personally I'd just buy a new tv but that's not what she wants.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have!

A lumen is the measure of light (brightness) - the higher the better

Any brand is good (stay with a name you recognize) - Don't bother with used.

Unless she is good at running electric & cable (or already has the room 'down to the rafters) - the ceiling mount will not look pretty. If she gets it and wants to use her wall, she should paint the wall with a "special mix" to really make the picture movie-like. There are webs sites out there with the paint mix instructions.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have!

She can also go to Best Buy, Circuit City etc to pick the salespersons brain for ideas (she should also want to ask a couple of them as each has their own ideas) And of course google the web.

Anything Projection =bulb

Bulb= $$$$$$

Bulb= not under gurantee.

lol morrie,

yeah I told her that I think a projector is a bad idea and a tv of some sort woud be better... she says "well I think it would be cool to be able to take it ouside" I figure she could take her portable dvd player out there... of course it wouldn't be the same effect as the "big screen," but seriously, how often would she REALLY take it outside?

Thanks for your input. :)

Take it outside????

nothing for nothing, but let her know the ambient light would really fade out the projection, plus what would she use as a screen?

Imagine your own drive in, sit outside on a nice night and show a movie on the garage door or the side of the house. Far from ideal, but it would be very cool.
