Need some expert comments on buying a portable mp3 cd player. The top 3 models to choose in this category are: -

1. iRiver SlimX 350
2. SonicBlue RioVolt SP250
3. Sony D-CJ01

Please let me know your opnion on these or any other model that stands out and if any deal is available on them anywhere.

CNet and ZDNet have unanimously voted iRiver as the best mp3 player till date. SonicBlue RioVolt 250 comes a close second. The main advantage of these players over Sony is that they come with a remote control. They also have preset equalizer settings and upgradable firmwire. The only place where Sony is a winner is the long battery life, that's all.

I went for the iRiver SlimX IMP 350 because of the following reasons :-
- Its the slimmest MP3 player available
- I found its design much more appealing than the others
- It comes with a rechargeable set of batteries and has built in charger too
- It also comes with an external AA battery adaptor
- It has built in flash memory which enables an 8 minute anti skip duration. Anti skip is not only good during jogging or jerks but is also good for the CD and the life of the player itself.
- It also has a FM tuner, very handy when I run out of CDs
- Another advantage is that the LCD screen has backlit display.
- Finally and most important the price, I bought the player from costco.com for $119.99 after $20 mail in rebate. Ofcourse this price does not include the tax and shipping costs. But none the less its worth to invest a little more to get this masterpiece.

Not being partial to it, there is one thing that I did not like about this player and that is the mising lcd display on the body of the player.

People who are ready to wait for some time can look forward for the latest version IMP400.

SlimX

Definitely go w/the iRiver SlimX. My buddy just got one from CompUSA to replace his SECOND broken RioVolt on warranty.
