Amazon.com has the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) for $17.99 + $5 gift card.

Item will be released on July 21, 2007

- Amazon Price : $17.99
- (Recommended) Add $7.01 worth of goods to get free shipping.
- You also get a $5 gift certificate if you order before July 20, 2007

Don't panic!

If you already pre-ordered, you'll still get the gift card. It's $5 off a $20 purchase in August.

Sorry, that link won't work. Just go to the Amazon page and click on "$5 promotional certificate...see details"

ah let the price war begin! Hopefully the best deal is yet to come before I settle into one!

I ordered this book way back in February and so far Amazon have dropped the price and added a $5 gift certificate and honor both of them for pre-existing orders - good company - will use it towards a gift I am getting my dad

Good company?!? They screwed me bad on the Bowflex. It was damaged in shipping and returned to them. Instead of reshipping they canceled the order. If I reordered it I wasn't going to get the $200 instant credit and the $100 gift certificate off a future purchase. Their service has plunged in the past year.

You didn't get screwed, they just didn't give you the deal (which sounds like it was over, if you couldn't just order from the page)... At least you got your money back.

No, he got screwed. They shouldve replaced the unit without having to issue the refund and then re-order. They shouldve kept his original payment and simply sent another one. At the very least they shouldve honored the price that he paid originally considering it was not his fault for the return.

Back to topic.. Whats the deal with these books? I dont get why people are such Harry Potter groupies. The books (or at least the one I started to read) are too long and overly verbose and the movies are boring (tried to watch three of them and couldnt make it half way through). No offense to you guys who like it (Im a big fan of fantasy writing myself) but I truly dont see the draw of purposely fluffed stories made up for a child.

If you don't get the appeal of Harry Potter at this point, I doubt that you ever will...

Back to topic (seriously)... this is an okay deal if you are buying something else on amazon... otherwise, the shipping cost cancels out the GC... I have a feeling there will be plenty of discounted copies closer to release day...

Agreed. but that doesnt help me to understand the draw of these books. I'm not asking because I want to like it, Im asking because I dont get why so many thousands of people are so caught up in this..

In my opinion it's like Roll Playing games. You get into the characters and grow with them and everything around them and their actions corresponds with every move they make like little riddles or what’s next that’s the draw.
