I had a feeling this would happen.... Adorama is now cancelling accepted orders!

This is the email I just received from them...

Thank you for your recent order for the Canon L170 Faxphone ICAFPL170 that was advertised with an instant rebate directly from Adorama.

These units were part of a limited allocation that we were able to obtain at a discounted price, and could therefore offer this on to our customers with an instant saving.

Due to the popularity of this offer we have now sold out completely of the promotional units that we received; it is therefore with regret that we are unable to accept your order for the printer with the instant rebate directly from us.

In accordance with our Terms and Conditions of Web Site Use and our Pricing and Availability Policy, we are left with no choice but to cancel all affected orders.

Any other items ordered at the same time will be processed and shipped out, unless they are accessories for the cancelled printer. If you would still like to order the accessories - or indeed if you would prefer us to cancel your entire order, we would understand, but please do let us know as quickly as you are able in order that the changes can be made.

We make every effort to avoid this sort of thing happening so we do want to apologize to anyone that was confused and/or frustrated by the rebate system - and thank you all for being such great customers. We hope you continue to shop at Adorama.

:mmph:

I suspect they are going to hold the units from these canceled orders and sell them at a higher price later on, perhaps before the rebate expires the end of July.

I am going to be keeping a very close eye on them to see if they magically come back in stock

Got the same e-mail. Reseller ratings and BBB here I come.

If they knew they had a limited number of units, why didn't their shopping cart simply stop accepting orders after they were gone? This seems to be a major problem with Adorama as they've done this in the past.

You are absolutely 100% correct; the software that regulates the shopping cart should have ensured that it stopped accepting orders as soon as all of the ‘special purchase’ units had been accounted for.

Please be assured that this matter has been taken seriously and alongside the immediate action taken to cancel the orders that cannot be fulfilled at the discounted price, senior IT management will be launching an investigation into the matter.

I wish there was something I could say to make you feel less angry about the incident, although I am not surprised that you feel the way you do about this offer; I do appreciate your frustration, and imagine that in your position that I would be feeling the same way.
There are a number of excellent retailers who offer equally competitive terms and comprehensive inventories, so I understand fully that my apology alone could not restore your faith in Adorama. All I can do now is apologize that we caused you and our other disappointed customers such inconvenience.

We really do care about our customers and will use the experience from this mistake to help make better decisions going forward.
