Looks like a decent deal!

Bleh, still too expensive. Not enough games out, and the ones that are out are just 360 ports for the most part that run slower and don't look as good.

As an owner, I can only agree.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma that came out recently is a great game, but just not worth the money.

If you are looking for a High-Def player for your HDTV, this might be good though.

I second that (or "third" I guess it would be). I've played Resistance about 3 times, Motorstorm maybe twice, and watched a ton of blu-ray movies.

PS3 = affordable Blu-Ray player with a free game system added in.

wow, graphics are beautiful on that game.

It's pretty crazy each time we're awwed by a new system's graphic and when the next system comes out, it looks terrible.

I remember I was awwed by PS2, now when I play it, I can't tell whether it's a PS1 or PS2 game.

I ordered this last night. I was real wishy washy about the decision and i kept adding and removing from my cart. When I did it a final time the deal had changed and the free blu-ray disk was Resident Evil Apocalypse. I yelled SOLD and placed my order. Milla on 42 inch High Def .. yum. I agree there aren't many games out yet - the main selling point for me was that you can play all your previous PS games on it. If Nintendo followed this model, i would be all over the Wii.

The PS3 is not 100% backwards compatible, while the Wii is 100% compatible with all GC games...

True, but it's enough where most don't have to worry about any BC issues (unlike the 360). Maybe the more obscure titles will not work, but one thing it has over the PS2 BC: the PSTRIPLE can play PSone games that don't work on the PS2 (i.e. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, MK Trilogy).

This is a great deal also considering that in this month's issue of EGM there's a deal for another 5 free Blu-ray movies. so for $500 you get the 60 gig version, 10 Blu-ray movies, and another controller.

If I had waited another 6 months or so I would've been all over this, but I cracked and bought one after VF5 came out.

Hold up a second.... I thought the PS3 was backwards compatible for the most part. I've heard that Sony pretty much put a PS2 in the PS3 (or at the least the proc) to ensure backwards compatibility, although I don't know if its true.
And Sony announced 15 exclusives made from them for the PS3, and another 100 exclusives by other companies; so I don't think that no game problem is going to last for long. ;)

But is it true that it has overheating problems (and the other sort that the XBox360 suffered from at first)? :questionmark:

It is for the most part. The BC compatibility list for the PS2 library is around 95-98% due to the emotion engine used in the PS3 as opposed to using software emulation (I believe, but could be wrong).

After viewing Sony's keynote, reading the liveblogs and d/l mucho amount of goods off the PSN, I'm getting pretty excited at what's in store for the upcoming year. (^.^)

I haven't heard anyone having any problems with their PSTRIPLEs as far as any technical or hardware issues. It does get pretty warm though.

*edited for approximate BC list accuracy*

Yes I do own a 360 and don't own a PS3... so all rivalries aside.

If you plan on buying a PS3 (60GB) version should buy it now before they no longer sell them in the US.

The 60GB PS3 is being discontinued which explains the price cut.
See article

In short the PS3 60GB that played almost the full PS2 library of games will be discontinued at the end of this this month.

I'm not an expert at the backwards compatibility but I do know that the 60GB PS3 (to be discontinued) has something called an "ee chip" which is pretty much the chip that allows all PS2 games to play...

once this model is discontinued though, the other PS3's will not have the 'ee chip' and will have limited backwards compatibility.

Second paragraph - no plans to phase out the 60GB until supplies are gone. They're not just pulling the product... just an FYI.
