PSA: Live 8 - please read

IMHO, the Live 8 concert was amazing. Besides the fact that it featured a lot of great music, it raises public awareness of how people in Africa are suffering from extreme poverty and starvation and it also sends a strong message to those leaders of the G8 nations that people care about what's happening.

Have any of you signed this online petition yet?

It asks the G8 nation leaders to:

1. double the aid sent to the world's poorest countries,
2. fully cancel their debts,
3. change the trade laws so that they can build their own future.

I don't know if those leaders will actually do this, but the more people sign this, maybe the more likely that they'll listen and consider these points.

At the G8 leaders meeting on July 6th we urge you to:

* Help the poorest people of the world fight poverty, AIDS and hunger at a cost equal to just ONE percent more of the US budget on a clear timetable;
* Cancel 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries;
* Reform trade rules so poor countries can earn sustainable incomes.
