Question about post deletion and rep points

I will say that I'm a bit frustrated that some questions I've asked about how all this works (I've seen threads disappear, posts disappear, my post count suddenly drop by 15+ posts, etc) and not rec'd an answer. One of my biggest questions is about the point/rep system. I can't figure out how the # of points given is determined. I thought it was based upon what the person's own rep #/level is, but that was debunked when someone with less than 50 points gave me 2+ points w/one 'rep', yet I'm over 100 and still only giving out 1 point when I rep someone? :hmmmm2: Can anyone explain this to me before my head explodes??

The only thing I can think of regarding post counts is...

If you responded in a new post and it was deemed to be spam or self promo the whole post was most likely deleted. You posted within a post that was deleted so you lost that post from your post counts. Also posts that might have been moved in to the off topic section do not count towards post counts.

Post counts mean nothing, rep points mean nothing. I do not see what the big deal is regarding who has higher numbers. I feel what counts is quality of posts, not quantity of posts. There are some members who have 200+ - 300+ post counts and have posted nothing but "Thanks" for all of them.

Well, I'm not one of the "thank you" only posters, and I know it doesn't "Mean" anything to have a high post or rep count, but that still doesn't help me figure out how the rep system works. Obv. it has SOME use or it wouldn't exist, right?

I just repped someone earlier tonight and saw my repping is now up to 3 points per rep.. Maybe the # of points someone gives is based upon the # of reps they have, but that doesn't explain the people that have less than 100 points and give a bunch. I just wish there was some sort of scale to explain how it all works.. does one not exist? I mean, SOMEONE had to have set all this up, right?

I think your post count may have dropped because the thread explaining the 'thank you' button had all posts removed to clean it up to where it shows only the explanation of how thank you's will now work.

Thanks Joyce, that is exactly what it is. She had about 15 or so posts that were deleted in that thread. There were alot of posts removed from many people in that thread.

Yeah, from what I can tell you gave me 4pts. I got 2 other "thanked post" 1 pointers before you so I think that all works out.
