hey all, sorry if this is in the wrong subforum, feel free to move if it is :D

well i just wanted to inquire after seeing all these low prices for 17/18 inch lcds, whats the tradeoff if I go with LCD?

first off I have some crappy 17 in. crt, nothing like the Samsung 19 in. 900NF (I think thats the model) my friend has.

and I am no graphic designer, I just surf the web, download tons of stuff, and watch dvd rips/tv episode sitcom rips on my computer.

will LCD suit me just fine? I don't game so no ghosting issues.

thanks for all advice!

If you dont use your monitor for heavy usage on graphics you dont need a high end monitor that costs almost $2000...

Just get a 21 Inch flat display monitor and you should be more than fine.. my suggestion...

I have a 21 Inch Sony Trinitron Flat display and it stuites me fine, I play games =P but most of it is used online work or doing my school work. No biggie...

exely tell me what your PC got.

if u want to watch dvd/rip or play game with good performance u need a BETTER Video card too. Crt is the best to watch video.

One thing LCD better than CRT is take up less space, good for your eye..

basically its like this,

if you are more into graphic designing then get an LCD since its easier on the eyes and generally more comfortable.

if you are more into gaming get an flash screen..somethin like a Sony or a Mitsubishi/NEC or Samsung..

if ur some one who does all of the above or none of the above then get what floats ur boat and is in ur price range :P

Samsung Sync Master 753DF the best in price/performance.. 17inch, 0.20mm,

price is cheap i bought mine 1 year ago for $150...

19" Medion at aldi (www.aldi.com) for $99. Own a bunch of Medion electonics and have been extremely satisfied. Considering the monitor but dont think I'll have room on the desk for it....

Nah, for graphic design nothing can beat a good CRT.

LCDs are good for office work and computer programming (read and write a lot of text).

I have a dual display configuration (LCD + CRT), so I have the best of both world.

LCD = good for static images
CRT = good for moving images and color precision

Don't even think of doing photo editing on a LCD, the printout will be so different than what you were seeing on the screen.

i can definitely agree with spectrum. i have learned from experience when printing off an LCD screen  but they are definitely good for text. I got my nice 17 in. MAG Innovision for ~$80-90. It has done an excellent job for me, and i saw their 19" model for ~$130. looked pretty good.
