Recertified Netgear XE102USR Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridge for $10.99 Shipped

I've used these

I've used these when I first moved into a new house, before I ran Cat5E up from the basement, and they work as advertised. These are older, 14 Mb/sec devices, there are faster units available (85 Mb/sec) but at higher prices.

These units can not be placed on a surge protector (the surge protector blocks the signal being carried along the power line), but aside from that caveat They Just Work. Great for running an ethernet connection to, say, a TiVo to download program schedules (I would not suggest streaming any video over them, but they might be OK for that), or to run a link out to a garage or workbench for an occasional Ethernet hook-up (that's how I use mine, a lot cheaper than a Wi-Fi Gaming adapter).

At $22 for a pair shipped (plus tax), these can be very useful tools to have available...
