Mr. Spoofee,

The rep points system makes NO sense whatsoever the way it's being used.

We need to limit rep points to the "Coupons" and "Free Goods" sections, and perhaps award a lot more points to someone who starts a thread in those sections (say 10 points per thread), than to people who merely add to it by clarifying something (say 1 point per post). This is what the other deal sites seem to do too, to avoid having people just rep their friends, which doesn't reward those who post the most deals OR help newcomers to the site figure out whose deals are good. I notice that some of the most frequent posters of deals have far fewer rep points than people who never or rarely post a deal. Does this make any sense?!!

In the same vein, you might want to consider making ratings for threads, rep points, etc. public rather than private so everyone can see which deals you liked and which you didn't like, or see which posts you repped.

My 2 cents. Thanks.

The rep points are considered by the amount of time a user has been here, like if user#1 reps me and he/she has only had like 40 posts, the rep points are lower, but if someone that has been here a long time and has many posts or even a moderator reps me, that is worth more points. Another issue is you can only rep a person one time like every 7 days or something, so if they post 3 or 4 deals, you can only rep them for posting one. It seems off to me too, but I just go with the flow, there are so many other issues with the site here lately , I figured they would get to this eventually. Also if someone has their reputation turned off, I don't bother repping them because I don't think they want the rep points anyway.

:hmmmm2: Hmmm....is that the same way they rep on Uranus?

Geez.....it's not like you can trade them in for a Cadillac or something.... They're fun...who cares who has more?

*Feel free to rep me, I need some more points toward my prius.;)*

Better than a Probe on Uranus!

*hey can I some rare coveted 'mod rep'? ;)*

I happen to enjoy using my Probe on Uranus. LOL

I must spread the reps before giving them to Preco anymore, so no coveted "mod reps" for you. :verysad:

Thanks, Choo. If any one has something relevant to add on the subject, I'd like to hear it.

As far as I can see, there are no advantages to having rep points enabled in all the sections. Yes, sure it's fun, and it lets people show they're popular if they feel the need, but there are lots of other ways to do that, by adding friends, having page views, having lots of visitor messages, having your level change depending on how much you post, etc.

This is a DEAL site. Shouldn't reputation points be based on deals? I've already listed the big advantage...it sets up a reward system for posting deals, and encourages people to do that. Right now, we're not rewarding the frequent deal posters in any way. If I understood correctly, this was the original point of having the rep system.

:hmmmm2: I thought it just came with the upgrade?

Rep points are fine. If you don't like them then you can disable them in your profile. I think it's nice being able to leave a nice comment for someone when then have posted a deal or posted something helpful. It's also nice when I get points for posting helpful stuff. It boils down to, if you don't like it turn the feature off in your profile.
