Reposts are everywhere in the freebies section. I know that if I can search for things, others can. It doesn't make any sense that people aren't following the rules and are doing whatever they want to do. A lot of members are always saying, well I didn't see it the first time it was posted, so I'm glad it was reposted. It's not supposed to work that way, search and bump a still available post. I have been a member for a little while and it's not that hard to do, the rules are right at the top of the page.

Thanks Joyce for bringing this to attention. Cause if I would have said something it would have just probably caused problems. I go through and double check the posts I think I remember seeing before and most of them are actually reposts, but it is hard to check each and every post.

I am also seeing alot of is people bumping back old, old threads and stating it is not available anymore. Of course it is not, the fricken post is 3 years old. Another thing I am seeing is people bumping old posts stating that it is still showing as available but there are pages of people from years ago stating they never received anything at all.

Only thing I can think of it that good freebies are getting harder to find. :)

:28: I can only imagine how frustrating it is when you work so hard to post and then see other people reposting your posts. I feel bad for people like Joyce-when the posts are not found right away and removed. :ohwell: I hope that this gets cleared up and the people that repost are notified and taught how to check before they post. :teeth:

Reposts- You Go Girl Joyce!

:claps::claps:YOU GO GIRL! I agree w/ Joyce! I always double check! And sometimes triple check!
It's not that hard! It makes it very very annoying for others such as myself looking for a freebie when we have to come across duplicate and sometimes triplicate and sometimes even more then that posts! :mmph::mmph:

Does this count as a re-post???

I think I have seen this post before... ;)

As long as there is a Spoofee to search, people will not. It is easier just to post it and let someone else "discover" it as a re-post.

:)

These are what I call "NCs" (Newbie Catchers) - I have heard a rumor that there are certain 'old timers' who will bump up an old post just to see how many newbies try it, can't get it and then complain about it.

If anyone finds a repost they can alert the Mods by clicking on the red triangle on the post. It will allow you to put the details of the report so we can take care of it.

On another note dbee, I took care of the repost...

I frequently alert mods to reposts, and it is about a 60% rate that it gets "taken care of". I try and post the original link(s) in the dup post, flag it, include the link to the old one (if time) and the thing that peeves me off the MOST about all this-

worse than the fact that the Op was too darn lazy to search...
worse than the other posters who encourage the laziness with "thanks for the repost otherwise I would have missed it (grr a bump would do the same)...
worse than those who complain that someone cared enough to prove it was a repost...

is the mods who ignore when we hand the repost with all the info to you. That 60% should be well over 90%. :mmph:

In fact, I almost stopped posting here completely. I barely even visit anymore because of the lazy mods and the fact that they ignore us when we try and help YOU do what YOU SAID you would do. (collective you, if the shoe fits, jam your foot in it)

I have been doing freebies for over 20 years. As a child, my very first susbcription was to Freebies magazine. Ya know, the good old days where you had to mail away and send S&H? That was what I did with my allowance, my babysitting money, my yard money. The internet has put a totally different spin on freebies, and two thing the net always encourages is greed & laziness. I am old-fashioned, I don't tolerate those when it comes to respecting the manufacturers. And also, I respect Spoofee. The board, the owners, the mods- we are all volunteers here even if we don't have "mod" in our name. Joyce spends hours posting great deals which helps her online friends and keeps interest in the site (which is HOW it makes money). My time is no less or more important than anyone elses. Since I wade through the garbage posted on the board, clean up the dups, etc- don't disrespect my time either by ignoring my flags. And when someone doesn't respect the posted rules about dups, wrong categories, mislabeled freebies, missing info etc and one of us (your janitors) points it out- HAVE OUR BACK.

I certainly don't sort through & search for dups and errors and offer pointers because I have oodles of time. It is part of my contribution to the site, something I feel I can do that benefits the other members. I don't want to be a mod, but I don't mind being your right hand sometimes either. Just don't backhand me with it when we do your work for you.

Yes, and I can hear your amusement some nights from across the Hudson.......

:noidea: Why are you giving away all your amusement secrets?

 Amazing what people will do with their short time on earth!!!

Interesting to say the least. :mmph:

For some reason I do not get any mod alerts, which are supposed to come to us as emails. Not sure if Spoofee has something turned off or what. But I will be sure and have Spoofee look in to it.

I fully agree w/ Krispsmith...I too have sent plenty of flags to the mods about reposts only to feel they're being ignored! And I too agree w/ joyce who does oodles and oodles for this site only to have her posts reposted repeatedly! and some are not even duplicates..they're triplicates and more! I feel this is a waste of all of our time. I come on here to look for things to help keep the costs of makeup, detergent, etc down and get the free things that will most benefit my family!
I too like Krispsmith also started w/ Freebies magazine in the early 70's when I was just a child! Fell in love w/ it and have made a great many friends on this site.
Joyce being one of them! WE have each other's back now why can't the mods have ours? To say that a mod hasn't gotten "any mod alerts" is rediculous to say the least!
I nominate Joyce for moderator as I KNOW the job would be done!
We're only voicing our frustration w/ all the duplicate posts that waste our valuable time.
If you say you're going to get on the duplicates then as my belated father would say "JUST DO IT NOT TALK ABOUT IT".
Thank you
Sunni;-)

yeah.. as a mod, i haven't gotten any of these "repost" alerts in my email. I have been getting others.. but not specifically about reposts. Spoofee is looking into it now. Reposts are the easiest thing to fix. I don't think we would purposely ignore any of these. There has to be something wrong. Thanks guys for bringing this up.

Well let me just say a few things here...

Who are you to assume anything? We as mods do this in our spare time, we do not receive compensation and I am sure most of us have full time jobs. We are not lazy like you think, just preoccupied with our own daily lives. Why would we lie about not receiving alerts? We like seeing this place thrive just like everyone else or we would not be wasting our time with moderating. You do not see all that goes on behind the scenes with all the spam posts we go through and all the other garbage people try to post. So until you actually know what goes on around here, please do not assume anything cause you know what happens when you assume.

I have to agree with Choo here. It's only a freebie site, people need to lighten up. The mods have lives and jobs, and should not be expected to spend 10 hours a day on a deal site (in lieu of getting a life), to make sure every post is perfect.

As for the reposts, I think there are different categories of reposts: if it's from a newbie, it's well-meant and they'll learn soon enough that the search box on the front page only covers deals, and not the freebies (BTW, mods, I think this is the reason we see so many "I searched but didn't see this" messages in the reposts --- they're searching in the wrong place).

If it's a regular poster who made a mistake, can you PM them to ask them to delete it? I remember a time Joyce herself reposted something Mr. S. had, and when I PM'ed her about this, she was perfectly nice about it and quick to delete the repost. I've seen a repost or two by Mr. Spoofee too. The point being, *anyone* can make a mistake, but are they willing to correct it?

If you really think it's the third category where someone deliberately *wants* to repost or doesn't care if it's a repost (b/c they can't be bothered to search) and refuses to delete the offending post, and this is recurring behavior, then I think a complaint to the mods about the person's behavior is in order. They need to receive a warning.

Thank you for your comments, but as Choo pointed out we don't get paid for doing this. We are mods here cause we like the place and want to keep it clean. I have a full time job from 8 - 5 and occasionally I can check in from work, but most of the time it's in the evenings while I'm at work. What you don't see is all of the spam messages that are caught and deleted before any of the users see them. There's a lot of background tasks that we do that as normal users you don't see and believe me if we were to stop doing them yall would notice.

As for the reported posts I seem to be getting them. I just reported a post in this thread and I got it with out a problem. To report a post click on the red triangle, enter your message why you are reporting it and click send.

You'd love my bathrooms....:05:

Wanna "mod" my bathrooms? :eyebrows:

;)

after some research, it was found out that freebie section post alerts were not being received by mods. It is possible that other sections alerts are also not being received. There must be a setting problem that will be fixed by Spoofee.

Meanwhile, I will lock this thread as we have figured out the problem. Thank you
