They are based in Russia but they use Pay-Pal so now worries there. Looks like they have a very good selection. Most of the cds that i have looked at are around $1.50 and songs are from 3-50 cents but mostly 7 cents.

Here is a new one

http://3mp3.ru/eng/

$4.55 per month unlimited downloads.

im curious to see what will happen with this. technicaly its not legal as america knows it, but it is legal in russia, they cant stop people from going to that website cause that would be censorship. obviously the record industry cant track anything cause its legal in russia and they have no rights. will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I just signed up, figured what the hell its only $20. Works like a charm, very quick downloads. Thanks for posting this. :claps:

Nice to know that it works good. I just hope that it can stay open. They have a lot of songs that iTunes doesnt have plus is 95% cheaper.

I am just about ready to spend another $20. You can download the songs you choose up to 336 hours after you purchase them. This is great, I have purchased 20+ full cd's worth of music for $20. LOL

That all depends. Just like Kazaa, the  record  industry  really can't do anything to anyone... EXCEPT its american consumers. I heard that since Kazaa is based/created outside the US, the  record  industry  can't shut it down like it did to Napter. So what it did was its best resort, discourage sharing by piling $1000s in law suits on the american public. This would explain why no one from beijing or canada or our southern neighbors, Mexico, has been sued over sharing. I'm just very disappointed in Metallica, I really can't believe they pretty much started all this mess.

Yeah, IMO, they should sell those songs for like 5 cents each so that no one's gonna care for illegal stuff. And look at the way they are living. I dont mind getting rewarded for their creativity and all that, but it is getting too much.

They are trying to sue candians, but a judge has ruled that the CRIA didn't have all it's ducks in a row when it presented it's case for getting names from the ISP's. Furthermore, the same judge ruled that atleast for now, just because you place something into a directory, the is shared through Kazaa, etc, doesn't mean you are violating copyright. Furthermore, under Canadian law, it's perfectly legal to give you CD to a friend and let them copy it. The law is funny that way, if you make the copy yourself and give the copy to your friend, thats a breach, but if they make the copy, it isn't. He decided that the same thing applies to filesharing, your not actually making the copy for your friend.

I've been a member of allofmp3 for a long time, great site. From the reviews I've read, the site pays royalties to a govt company that manages copyrights, not directly to the music companies. And these royalties that they must pay are much lower than us Americans are used to. Completely legal in Russia, but America requires you to pay different royalties. Also, (not too sure how true this is, but it's interesting) I heard that this site costs as much as ITunes to Russians because of the exchange rate. Interesting to think of...

This is an interesting post ... I dont really know what the legality of this is ... I'll most likely check the site out, but Im wondering if buying your music through these sites is really any more legal than just downloading it from a free P2P service ... I guess at least this way you are LESS likely to get slapped with a suit from RIAA. Unless theres some law against it (anyone know?) then its really no different than buying any other good/service from overseas.

You can get free music from Usenet. There are tons of binary music newsgroups of all types & you can make requests. My alt.binaries.mp3 has 274,000 posts. But Im deaf, so not much use in me downloading :-)

Usenet and all that are fine if you feel like having to weed through songs that are not what they say they are, risk of viruses, and having a hard time finding obscure material or full CD's. :hmm:

You can get full CD's without the risk of viruses, you know that you are going to get the songs you download, and they have just about everything you are looking for in the sites listed in the post above. Its not free, but it sure is extremely cheap and alot less frustrating. LOL

How is the audio quality? Also does anybody know what the bit-rate or the quality of iTunes?

AllOfMP3 does have some loseless audio codec so that means that is the exact same quality as the cd.

MP3Search is ****ing awesome. I just started using it thanks to you guys and I dont know that I will ever go back to IRC. I dont have to wait in a queue, and I can get old music without a hassle.
I just wish once i bought the full album i could download every file in 1 big ZIP

The audio quality varies depending on the download, but the bitrate is listed there before you download. For the most part they are 192 and I have seen many at 256 and some at 320 (especially the live or bootleg stuff) Not really much difference past 192 in my opiinion, but the price does go up a little since it is 1 cent a MB for those songs. I have seen a few 96 on there too, but you can see that before you downlaod, at least on the clubmp3 site.
Thanks, batman. I know there is a bitrate info on each songs, but I asked about the quality b/c quality should greatly depend on the source also. For instance, this is just an example but quality should differ if it's sampled from a CD than from a am radio even though both have the same bitrates. I am assuming most of them are sampled from CD but I just wanted to make sure... If anybody knows of a page that explains these in details, I would like to see them.

Also you can preview any song on there, without even adding money at 24 bitrate which is good enough to listen to like internet radio pertty much.
Yeah, these 24K bitrate is great for checking out the songs!

I went to AllOfMP3 site but I didn't see their prices. How much are they? If they are similar to mp3search than I think the realaudio lossless codec was 700K so it should roughly double the prices of 320K's.

AllofMP3 charges you 1 cent / MB downloaded for normal stuff (listed as VIP or OE (online encoding), 2 cents / MB if you've requested one of the files that is listed as OE Exclusive which allows you to encode it from a CD on the fly, you can of course also get the normal version of an OE Exclusive and pay 1 cent / MB

Thanks guys. :)

Hey, my computer is telling me that it can't resolve DNS and I can't connect to their site. :( I tried using the their DNS servers directly but it still doesn't resolve. It doesn't seem to be able to resolve anything so maybe their DNS server is messed up... or did they get taken down??
