A top Iraqi official says Saddam Hussein will be executed before 10:00 p.m. Friday.

As the execution approached, Saddam received two of his half-brothers in his cell Thursday.

He's said to have given them his personal belongings and a copy of his will.

A member of Saddam's legal team says he also requested a final meeting with Saddam, and that a daughter of the deposed Iraqi leader wanted to go with him. The request was rejected.

Arab TV stations report Hussein hanged
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been executed, according to two Arabic language media outlets. Earlier, an Iraqi judge told CNN Hussein would be hanged before dawn on Saturday in Iraq, (10 p.m. Friday ET). The former president was convicted of crimes against humanity in connection with the killings of 148 people in Dujail.

Not sure what it will "solve or resolve" if anything, but, at least now, it is a done deal. Hopefully, the Iraqi people can now move on, and, gain some peace and stability.

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been executed by hanging at an unspecified location, reports say.

Iraqi TV said the execution took place just before 0600 local time (0300GMT). It was witnessed by a doctor, lawyer and officials. It was also filmed.

US troops and Iraqi security forces are on high alert for any violent backlash.

Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by an Iraqi court on 5 November after a year-long trial over the 1982 killings of 148 Shias in the town Dujail.


For those having a problem with this, please note the hi-lited section. The big-bad USA did not execute him, his own people (read that victims) did.

There justice system sure works fast over there~~In the U.S. it takes years and years of appeals before anything is done and then sometimes the victims family is already deceased!!
 
I am not rejoicing but am relieved to know that he will never, ever be able to continue his tyrade or will ever be in power again.
 
what does everyone think about the videos and photographs of the execution that are supposedly being released?

i know that Iraqi's need closure and its a historic moment, but it still seems kind of...gruesome??

Merely a "Cultural Predisposition." Remember when his two sons were killed in a bombing? The people actually demanded to see the bodies and pictures! I don't get it, but then, I don't have to. Might give them closure? :convinced:

I think there will be a fair share of rubber neckers, but for those who have had family members slaughtered and murdered by him, they will at last feel some justice and quite possibly need to see what finally became of him.

From my understanding, foreign tv/coverage is much more gruesome on an average day than the US.
 
wanting to see someone die isn't anything new or especially gruesome. wanting to see someone die for your selfish pleasure is, though (think johnny cash, folsom prison blues). public executions have been going on for many, many, many, many years (think Jesus on the cross)...

i personally don't need to see saddam's hanging, but i might watch if given the opportunity. death being fascinating isn't a bad thing. just as i'd watch a birth, i would watch a death.

but that's just me.

From what they just said on our local news the actual hanging was NOT taped they did show a clip of him being prepared to be executed and then after he was placed on a blanket or sheet or some type of body bag.I think from some of the people there that have suffered HORRIFICLY they do NEED to see for themselves .The news station here interviewed a local family that fled here a few years ago and one member said he NEEDED to see it and another said he didn't want to.

People May Think This Is For The Best, But At Best It Is Barbaric. The Middle East Will Always Be At War With One Another. It Says So In The Bible.

Being what things are, since the actual entire procedure was NOT taped, and from what I understand there were several of his relatives with him,........will there now be a conspiracy theory to say that it never happened and that he's living somewhere on some island somewhere?????

There are some that say JFK Jr & Elvis are alive somewhere......

Just a thought....:rolleyes:..I don't trust anyone....
