Apparently, ‘grinding,’ ‘bumping,’ ‘humping,’ ‘hunching,’ ‘goosing,’ or other sexually explicit dancing is the only way to dance anymore. The school's prom contract now prohibits this type of dancing and some students aren't too happy about it. :convinced:

Good for the school administration! No 16-year-old kid needs to be dancing like that. Bring back the Cabbage Patch, Roger Rabbit, Robot, and the Kid-N-Play.... Or the Mashed Potato, Twist, and Monkey!

Wow, :stupid: :faint: 3 whole pages to address this.....

Just curious Spaz - was this on the national news?
Just wondering where you ran across it.

I see both sides.

I can see why the kids would be upset and now that I am older with a child of my own I can see why the administration is pushing this.

I see that this type of dancing is cool and fun for the kids & from the other side I see where it can lead to other things. I remember dancing with my man in high school and it stirs up the hormones. And some of the dancing they do today is basically sex with clothes on. Some of the moves mimic sex. Dirty Dancing was on the other night - we should have seen this coming. That movie was made in 1987 - 20 years ago!

This kid has the right idea - he will be a model citizen:

"Sophomore Edward Frederick also will attend, and had no problem signing the contract.“You have to respect the law, what they want you to do, so I don’t have any complaint with it,” he said"

My school was dumb. Our senior prom was after graduation. So if we misbehaved what could they do? We already graduated. I cant even tell you how drunk we were when we finally made it to prom.

i know im gonna sound like a stupid little child but i really really really wanna give my opinion on this. when we are at dances, these are the only dance we do, unless its like techno(which a lot of my friends dont like). recently a orginization that i go to gave us bad music,a hostile dejay and a bad environment to dance so that we wouldnt dance like that. we protested by not dancing and not having a good time. the songs that they played were, the macarena, the cha cha slide and other bad songs. these dances dont do anything. we dance like this because we feel stupid "taking it back and crisscrossing it" or doing some of the older dance moves.we dont plan to hve sex or do anything bad. its just dancing. i never seen me or any of my friends get pregnant, have sex or do any vulgar things after doin tha bump'n'grind. i have a dance tommorow and we all plan to dance like that. people take this as something bad but its only dancing, its never promotes sexually illicit things-not to us anyway. i sound stupid, but thats what i do. i love to dance, and i dont feel like breaking out my routine in the middle of the dance floor. people look at us liike we are crazy. im know as the girl who starts the dancing cause im "the girl that grinds with the air"(dont ask, wont tell). you reallly need to know what goes one.

thats just my oppinion since i experience it first-hand.

and at my school dances the teacher(except like 2 parents) allowed us to dance like that. they knew we wanted to have a good time.(not like that) i also hate when people who dont even know whats up,make us stop doing something we like to do. it ruins our night.

perhaps instead of dancing that much, you should be studying grammar?

Just a thought..... ;)

You have a point there (and I don't mean the one protruding from your ear).

Shani, you seem to think that none of us were young too... We have all grown up and lost our minds! NOT!

Perhaps you should take advice from those who have been there, done that and want to see the next generation 'do better'. Adults don't sit around and waste their time just to give kids a hard time and 'destroy all their fun'. There are reasons behind it that kids who are not mature enough do not understand, even though they think they do. It's not all poppy-cock! :p

Anyway, it does remind me of all the stories of the "Elvis" era......

And did you listen, prec? Or did you find out for yourself? I didnt listen to most of it.

I think that its not right for us to tell them that they cant dance a certain way, but it is the school's perogative. Granted I want to see the next generation do well, but I want them to make the right choices, not have their choices taken away.

Of course, none of this is here or there, I dont have kids and Im not going to the dance!

So then I guess we should let them do whatever the heck they please...... No rules, no guidelines, no guidance...someday they'll figure it out on their own......:stupid:

Umm, I said dont tell them how to dance. I dont know where you get the no rules or guidelines thing..

hmmm... I'm still waiting on Spaz to answer my question?
I'm just curious because this is my local paper and a high school in my town.

:hmm:And that was also only about dancing???? Or was that referring to advice, rules, guidlines and guidance????:hmmmm2:

Yeah, but I never said not to give them guidelines, etc. I said that I didnt listen. Thats all. Come on, are you just trying to find something to kvetch about? Give me a freaking break already.
