Seagate 250GB SATA Hard Drive $85 After Rebate Shipped

Samsung vs. Seagate

Is the Samsung as good of quality as the Seagate? I've had failures with Maxtor, Fujitsu, IBM and Western Digital. Never with a Seagate or Toshiba (laptop drive). At least most of the laptop drive failures gave warnings before failure or were because of a drop while running. But I had what I recall was a Fujitsu 13GB desktop model that was a piece of crap from the word go and same with Maxtor. I frequently refer to the Maxtor drives as "beer can hard drives", since they feel lightweight and look cheap, like they were made of old beer cans.

I should wait for the Seagate 300GB to go on sale again anyway so I can mirror the last drive I bought via a posting here.

I have had both makes. I think they are both at the same level of quality. I prefer the new spinpoints to the sataII seagate drives. They are pulling a 5 star rating at Newegg also if you want to read the reviews

sataII, quieter than the seagate
Barely quieter than the Seagate. It seems right now they're all a toss-up. I couldn't care less about newegg ratings, but Storage Review just published a 250GB comparison.

Edit: yes, they're looking at the 7200.9 and not the 7200.8 this is. But they have another review comparing those two models.
