Ok so I finally hooked up my new monitor that I bought in early November. While I was at it I rearranged my office and I was real careful ..watching what cord I pulled from where. (I've never hooked up a computer in my life) So the new monitor came w/ a DVI cable...it says it's optional. My problem is when I finally got everything hooked back up I noticed my external speakers were not working. I did not have the DVI cable hooked up to my old monitor and I was wondering if my new monitor requires me to have it hooked up in order to have sound from speakers other than the monitor's. I hope that makes sense. Sorry about the book. :o
Thanks in advance!!

I recommend a tech site forum, you can find some free ones doing a web search. None of my computers ever had anything to do w/my speakers. You may have to open the properties on your speakers to make sure they are hooked up.

Try unplugging your speakers from the back of the computer and trying another input jack that looks the same. (Be sure to have a long song playing so that you know when you get the right slot.) The speakers, microphone, and input jacks all look the same. Usually, but not always, the speakers go into the green-colored jack.

Try going into your "Systems Manager" and look under "Devices" and "Drivers" to make sure that they are all working. That way you will have an idea if perhaps you have to upload a new driver to work along with your monitor!

I know your problem.

Try turning them on.

That guy doesn't look like he will know how to fix my puter. :convinced: :clown: I wonder if I cut something, my speakers will work.

1. so did you get it fixed?

2. the DVI cable, it has white jacks? btw, DVI cable is only a video cable (does not include audio)

3. does your monitor have speakers on the sides? what monitor is it?

4. is there a cable connecting your old speakers to the back of your computer? are your speakers plugged in to the outlet for electricity?

5. how can you tell if your speakers are on? is there a light?

6. you are just exchanging your old monitor for a new monitor connected to your old computer, right? this isnt like a whole new computer with a new monitor, right?
