Does anyone know the capabilities of this particular type of processor? Is it comparable to AMD Athlon, Celeron, etc?

last i checked AMD just renamed the athlon xp line to sempron, could be wrong

Semprons are alright.The Athlon XP's are much better even the 2600 clocks higher than this.If this was like 40 I might buy it.

I think Sempron is the successor of Duron and the counterpart for Intel's Celeron D. It has 256KB Level II cache. I've just bought a Compaq with the same processor and it's working fine. A bit slower than my Athlon XP 2600+, but nothing more than expected.
