Sony BDP-S300 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player + Movie for $299 Shipped

you'd be a fool to invest $300 in this model. Too many issues and problems with it (just read the reviews). Save $50 more and buy the BDP-S350 model. Now that's worth it!

New and improved BD player by Sony

Better off and wait until prices drop much more for blu ray.

$300 just for a player is a waste of money.

That's why I'm surprised Blu-ray beat HD-DVD. I got an HD-DVD player from Walmart last year in early November for $98. Since the movies themselves were costing about the same, I gambled that HD would win. Obviously, I lost on the gamble, but the player upconverts better than the avg up-converting DVD player and those players were around $100, too, I don't regret my purchase.

If Blu-Ray doesn't get the prices down on their players, they may not stay around, either. Most people with Blu-Ray have it because it is the drive used in the PS3--not from stand-alone players.

Yea, I would wait too. One of the main reasons that I bought a ps3 was cuz of the blu-ray player. But now with Dish and Directv showing 1080p movies through their service I think the prices might drop more? who knows..

The PS3 happens to be the best Blu-ray player out there. Better access time and better overall performance. When the PS3 drops to $299 this year (hopefully), then the stand-alone should drop even lower. The reason why Blu-ray is not moving as fast as anticipated is because of cost (obviously) and the demand. Most people look at their upconverted DVD movies are satisfied with what they see. Also, you can't really take advantage of the Blu-ray's 1080p picture unless you have a 1080p-capable TV that is 42" or larger. Most people dont have this type of TVs, thus the demand for Blu-ray is limited.
