I finally got my Sony DAV-C990 DVD Dream system from Butterfly Photo. I had tried to order one off Spiegel off a deal a few weeks ago but they sold out, or at least they say they did. I had been looking to purchase one of these anyway.

The unit works fine except for one issue. It's now happened from two sources. The unit will just completely shut off randomly in the middle of when I play the radio or watch TV using a standard RCA audio cable. I don't think it happens with CDs or DVDs. I'm looking for some help from someone around here because some of you probably know these types of things better than I do.

The unit works fine except for that one issue. When I call Sony, he took time to look it up and said that there was no solution and that according to him, the unit has no auto-off type of feature, which I realized myself.

I can get it repaired from a local electronics store that he referred me to through the warranty, but I'd rather not let someone fiddle with a brand-new unit without checking out my options and checking to see if anyone knows what the issue is.

As for the system, it's okay. The DVD changer/amp is really cool. It's really tiny but does a nice job with DVDs and CDs. The tuner isn't bad either, especially for a box that size. The unit looks great, which isn't a great concern to me but hey, it's nice to have. The playback is okay. The reviews say that the DVD changer is deathfully slow and that the subwoofer has no power. I agree with both of these, but I was able to turn the subwoofer up and now it sounds fairly decent. The DVD changer is a bit slow, but it's no problem to me, it works fast enough. The only reason I bought this system was because I got it for -$100 after the cash rebate, so it didn't cost anything to me. If you ordered this system for $390 from Spiegel and are actually getting it, it's awesome for the price. Don't go ahead and buy this out of pocket though.

Anyway, any comments or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks guys!

first off... where did you buy this from to get it for -$100? I wanted to get me another home theatre for my game room, but didn't want to get an el cheapo one... As for the problem, this may sound idiotic but do you have a reomte control? Make sure the power button isn't accdentally being pushed in because my tv was turning on and off a lot recently, then boom I found my "hidden" remote jammed between my bed and bed frame... Also, if you have a universal remote, the problem could be that also. Other then that i really can't think of anything... What I would do though if I was in that situation, I'd just buy a new set and return the old one... I would much rather have a good working product from the beginning then one that's already having a hard time... That's my two cents.

I agree exactly. The problem is, I bought it online and returning it would be horrible because of shipping charges etc. No, the remote is fine and the system functions well. I've been through a few calls with Sony and the best people I can find is a place called Village Electronics which is a very reputable place. I'd rather replace it but I don't think that I can fight with Sony to get a replacement, and even if I did, I would have to pay shipping at least for the amp which would be at least $20, not worth it to me. The place does good repairs so I'm probably just going to take it there and hope that they can sort it out.

As for the system, here's the post.
