i dont recommend the MDR-EX71SL. I got them and theyre garbage. Wire coating peeled after a few months.. right when the warranty ran out

Great headphones, the 51's at least. They took more than a year of school use and a bookbag beating. I have now replaced them primarily with Bose TriPorts. Of course, I'm fairly careful. Only thing to watch out for is that the pads come off very easily and you can lose the ones that fit your ears best (they come with 3 sets). Just always be careful when you take them out of your pocket etc. to make sure that the pads stay on. However, the cord was fine for me and they have great sound, especially for the price.

Hmm...

I own the Ex71s and they are great. Lately i have been reading about the plastic melting and crumbling and falling apart... has it always been that way or are these recent ones? Mine are in fine condition. I have had them for a year and use them all the time on my mp3 player and while using the computer. I keep them in the included plastic box. before putting them in the box i wrap them around my fingers in the form of a loop and then place them inside the box. As i said they work great for me and have had no problems with them. I just bought some Ex51s for my brother. I hope they dont fall apart....
