Sony TFT-LCD 18" Monitor @ BestBuy B&M for $350

Hi, can you tell me what is the model?

Use the 10% coupon to get it down to $350

$499 - $49 (10% coupon) -$100 rebate = $350

Anyone confirming this deal?
It would be a STEAL, just $350 for 18" TFT!

I'll be checking a couple of the local stores later (after I get of work) ;) ... and then I'll post back!

The KOGI 17" is $273 after rebate and coupon.

I'll try to confirm the deal last time I went to Bestbuy today. I havent gotten the time to check out the actual model # and they are not selling it online. I believe my friend will be picking up one today, I give you an update on the sony LCD.

btw, the Kogi LCD sucks, quality is not good and its so big and bulky for a LCD. If you were going to invest this much, for 50 to 100 bucks more, you could get something way much better. I recommend doing some hw b4 buying a LCD.

Well... I played around with that KOGi about a month ago (it was on sale at BB for $279.99) and all I can say is YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
I harrased one of the BB guys to the point that we changed connecting cables just to make sure it's not the monitor's fault the flickering in Microsoft WORD! To cut it short, after about an hour of fine tuning, w finally got it to work pretty nice but... still seeing some rarely pixelating lines!

Now how does that compare to a SONY? Going by my experience w/ SONY stuff I would say there's no place for comparison!

Just my 2 cents...

Re: Sony TFT-LCD 18" Monitor @ BestBuy B&M for $350

I just visited my local Best Buy store today. The Sony 18" monitor went back up to $599 before rebate. So now it's $599-$100rebate-10% in store rebate = $440.

The guy said they were matching a competitor's price. But that deal is over now.

The sony 18" is not available in all of the stores in my town (chicago).

I settled for the KOGI 17" for $369 - 10% + $29tax - $60 rebate = $302.
I decided to go for a dual monitor configuration with one LCD and one CRT so I can have the best of both world. Honestly, it makes a great configuration.

Here are the features of my configuration:
1. Text on the KOGI is way better than text on any of the 5 CRTs I have had (includes flat CRTs - viewsonic, proview).
2. Some static graphics (wallpaper) look better on the KOGI than the CRT (viewsonic flat 19")
3. Moving graphics (TV, Movies, Games) look far better on the CRT
4. The KOGI looks flawless at 1280x1024@75 32bit and "Track" set at 80.
5. Other settings (although not all) than the above cause slight flickering in sections of the screen following mouse movement or scrolling.
6. No dead pixel on my LCD :)

Since I am a computer programmer, text display is the most important feature and this is why I am content with the KOGI.
Aside from laptops, I never owned a flat panel before so I don't have much base for comparing LCD quality.
I did test some LCDs several months ago and was not impressed, but I need to go back to the store to test the current line of LCDs to see what is good quality.
From what I have read, all LCDs (except mac ones) have some sort of issues, even the expensive ones.
The technology is not perfect yet, so one should not spend too much money on LCDs.

If text is the most important feature => go for LCDs.
If graphic is the most important feature => go for CRTs.
If both => go for a dual screen configuration as I did.

I'll vouch for the Sony 18" SDM-S81 as an awesome display. It's like reading a billboard up close -- the brightness is incredible and the clarity is dramatic. My vision is deteriorating and this monitor is exactly what I needed to compensate. I know gamers don't like the slow refresh, but I watch DVD's on it frequently and don't notice blur. The SDM-X81 has a DVI interface as well as VGA if you have a digital-capable video card.
Plus everybody that sees it just drools! :yum: Buy it! Or wait 6 months and buy it for $100 less.

Well the 18" is nowhere to be seen. The 17" is selling for $599 -$100 rebate. If the 18" was to resurface, it would cost more I think.

Interestingly, the KOGI is getting good review on amazon.com; almost 5 stars.

Well, my mind will be more clear tomorrow when I go visit the stores for a close up comparaison.

My local BB (Omaha) has the Sony SDM-S81 18" LCD on the shelf for $599 - $100 MIR = $499. SKU #4543364.

People, I was at compusa today comparing the sony SDM-S81 and the KOGI 17" along with other displays. The sony performs same as the KOGI,
I kid you not. The key is to fine tune the KOGI.

There was a viewsonic that beats them both and the new sony 18" (forgot the model) is better than the SDM-S81. The SDM-S81 is an old model being fased out.

They all suck when it comes to watching movies and playing games. The IIyama perfoms better in the gaming categorie. So, either go cheap or go all out.

Again, the KOGI has a lot of options that can be fine tuned. The auto tuning is very useful too. Also, don't forget to set the font to cleartype and to fine tune the cleartype font on cleartype website. The price of the KOGI went up by the way.

Anyway, I love my dual LCD + CRT setup. :)

UPDATE: any flickering I may have mentioned in my previous post was due to my video card and not the LCD. I put a different monitor (CRT) on that card and the monitor flickered in the same way the LCD did. It is just that it is less noticeable on the CRT. The LCD presented no issues with my other video card.
