 :banghead: List your pet grammar peeves here: :banghead:

See, this way, we don't have to pick on each other in the other forums (fora???) and can just vent here!!!!!

I'll start us off:

  • Using "your" when you really mean "you're"

  • Using "it's" for "its"

Things that don't bother me at all:

  • Rampant abuse of all lowercase (I'm a frequent offender!)
  • "Verbing" nouns (within reason)

How about, "too" when it should be "to" and "to" when it should be "too". "Sentences" that aren't because they run-on.
"It's" used when the correct word is "its".

Can I refer to myself in 3rd person constantly?

Tigger_too_wooh likes to refer to herself as Tigger_too_wooh.

Okay, Tigger_too_wooh , you're confusing me. Are you saying Tigger_too_wooh's pet peeve is when Tigger_too_wooh refers to Tigger_too_wooh in the third person?

No... when anyone does...

OK, tigger, I'll refer to you in the first person from now on!
(Would that be "I, tigger, will refer to me in the first person from now on???")

Oh, why the hell did I start this thread? LOL LOL

well, i hate it when people say things like peeps instead of people and hehe, i dont know why, its not realy mispelling, but i hate it

well, i'm old school, but "roflmao" is incorrect, as it should be "rotflmao"

and...

when people use prepositions to end their sentences with

:p

there are so many things to list...

Hey Clubby, that nirvana guy is funny.....hehehe....rotflmfao LOL

BTW The Soup Nazi recently opened a store in my hood....:sus:...haven't gone in yet........:spy:

Why? Are you expecting an article between "on" and "floor?" Why couldn't it just be "rolling on floor ..."

If you're going to demand an article, then we'd better also have a subject and verb: "I am rolling on the floor ... " (iarotflmao)

I'm confused. Do you mean a "Soup Kitchen" or "The Soup Man". The last one I noticed (The Soup Man) closed on 3rd and 59th (across from Home Depot) about a year ago. I tried it and wasn't any more impressed with that one as any others. How can you screw up soup and even if you do, as long as you don't burn it it will probably be OK - just give it an appropriate name. All these soup places are good but they seam too expensive for a bowl of soup. I see (and sometimes use regardless) "Hale and Hearty". I used to do "Daily Soup" but their hours are "off" for me.

I know exactly what you speak of.

Referring to "The Soup Man" (Jerry Seinfeld/Soup Nazi). Talking about great soup, when I lived in the city, on 1st & 74th & 75th, "Mama Leiha's Blinzeria's" made a matzo ball soup to die for! Excellent, excellent soup.....she has been closed down for many years though....:( Nice lady too....her daughter was the one who fell down the elevator shaft in midtown (?) in the 80's. She survived though and I believe she was alright.

BTW is Desmond's (if i recall the name correctly) still there next to D'ags on 9th ave? I used to frequent there very often....:eyebrows:

no need for a subject or a verb, as it's not a complete sentence. however, an article is necessary for it to be grammatically correct even as a fragment.

I get my matzo ball soup at the Edison Cafe. My wife likes their Borscht (cold beet soup is not my item).

Desmond's sounds familiar but I don't know of a D'ags on 9th. I think the D'ags you are referring to was on 57th at 9th and is closed down (a few months ago). That's too far from me. I'd have to walk 10 whole blocks to get there! Although your last recommendation (the Water Club) was great so maybe I can manage it some time.
I like "Say Cheese" on 9th between 45th & 46th which is local for me. They have the "Mamas Special" = Your choice of grilled cheese on sour dough and a bowl of delicious tomato soup.

Desmond? Doesn't he have a barrow in the market place?

:music: Obladi blada.

Oh yeah, with Molly who's a singer in the band.

They closed that D'ags? (Yes, that's the one.) Desmonds was/is a bar snuck into the bottom of a high rise. Never ate there. ;) Nice bartenders.....:p

There's also a Mexican place (was a place?) right around the corner on 9th, east side of street going toward 58th. Had fun there too! :p

P.S. I had worked in that D'ags at one time. I had worked in a lot of the D'ags through the city. (Through H.S. & College)
