Spoofee: Can you tell me how you designed this site? PHP with ODBC? MySQL? Just curious. I'm designing a website (learning) and am trying to find the best way to maintain a header (side navigation) without frames. PHP seems to be the best but I'm not sure. Any advice?

I'm not a veteran enough to say what is the best, but this page started off static HTML. Currently it runs on PHP & MySQL & Static HTML =P.

I got started with PHP for the same reason you have.
The PHP "Include" function is exactly what you need to maintain the header/side bars. It was also easier for me because PHP looked just like C I learned back in high school.

There is also a HUGE community of PHP developers that will help you if you have any questions. I bought a book, but I google is really good enough. There is plenty of tutorials.

I think industries mainly uses ASP/Cold Fusion/etc. (a scripting language with a company supporting it), but I'm starting to see more and more PHP career positions opening up.

:) Good luck and once again, I'm still an amateur.

Thanks Spoofee. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. It's easy to get confused with all the options.

I really like the look of this site and other sites like cnn.com and sitepoint.com. The no-frames versions always look so much more professional. I'm going to tackle this thing with generic php using "includes" and/or "require"s. I'm like you...I'm a C programmer. PHP seems to be the easiest scripting language to integrate into pages. Still learning JavaScript. Thank God for Google!

Anyone that would like to post some similar advice, I'm very open. I'm learning. My goal is user friendly pages that are compatible with most browsers. This may be a challenge due to the broad range of items on my site (streaming audio [live and archived], large amounts of pictures, guestbook, etc).

You guys can visit http://www.farmersopry.com to see the progress. The page is in frames currently.

Thanks Spoofee.

Hey Spoofee, how do people become Moderators and Super moderators, i even saw one Super Mod. that didnt have very many posts

nigdonht : Mainly, I pick a moderator if they are knowledgable on deals/freebies and can help other members out. Other things I look for are "how often they come onto the forums," "friendliness,"... etc. :)

How do you become a Moderator

How do you become a Moderator or Super Moderator

The following answer is a lame attempt at humor:

Bribery, lots of butt kissing or have pictures of Mr. Spoofee with farm animals. ;) ;)

Plus don't make silly jokes/comments about the Spoofmeister. :zip: I guess I'm out of the running.

P.S. I don't think that Super Moderator is an "official" title.
