** Offer suspended ** -- "As you may know, Operation Fire SAFE (Smoke Alarms For Everyone) is a program of the National Center for Prevention and Research Solutions, a non-profit charity located in South Daytona, Florida. The Operation Fire SAFE (OFS) program is funded in part by a grant through the Office of Domestic Preparedness, U.S. Fire Administration. This year, one of the requirements of the grant is to raise “matching funds” to offset the money we receive from the Federal Government. In other words, for every $1 we spend of grant money, we have to raise $.30. That amounts to approximately $3.25 per smoke alarm that we give away. If we do not secure the matching funds then we have to give the grant money back.

We are currently seeking corporate sponsorship to meet the matching funds requirement; however, we have not accomplished that yet. So we don’t overspend the grant money before we have raised the matching funds, we cannot to take orders for smoke alarms at this time. We sincerely regret the need to stop sending smoke alarms out, as we know that many people need them but can’t afford them. If you know of an organization that would be interested in working with the Operation Fire SAFE program by holding a fundraiser or making a tax-deductible donation, please ask them to contact us at 866-NCPRS-NOW (866-627-7766).

Again, we regret the need to suspend the smoke alarm distribution program; however, we hope to be up and running as quickly as possible. Please check back with us periodically."

Our primary focus is to distribute free smoke alarms and fire safety/prevention materials to families across the United States to reduce the harm associated with home fires. OFS will target households with children under 14 and elderly over 65; however, will provide smoke alarms to anyone exhibiting the need.

Some Spoofee's can attest to the Free Smoke Alarms.
Those of you that received, please let us know.

NCPRS expanded and started a new program called Operation Fire Safe to distribute smoke alarms free of charge to families throughout the country. Operation Fire Safe will distribute the smoke alarms through racetracks across the country and through NCPRS’s motorsports sanctioning bodies like National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) and through corporate partners like Summit Racing Equipment and Ford Racing. Orders may also be taken by calling a toll free number, and, in the near future, via a website address. Operation Fire Safe is funded by a grant through the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Fire Administration.

Appears the program will accept new orders beginning 8/1/04.

I got the 4 I ordered. Every room in our house now has one. I also agree they are not the cheap ones. Actually they are the same type as the one that was already in our house.

When you fill out the form it asks how many you have, how many rooms you have ect. There was no point in being greedy. I only needed 4 to make sure every room including the kitchen has one.

I don't even remember how long ago I signed up for these... too many freebies to keep track of. And most never come. But these came. A total of 6 of them. Must have cost a bundle just to ship them.

I ordered months ago, never got anything. A friend of mine ordered also and never got theirs either. Anyone in NY state get anything from them?

Hopefully they will do backorders first.
