There is all this talk about term limits in NY City. It's being said that the voters should decide about term limits. Isn't that what voters do when they vote for a candidate. Why should it matter if a person has been doing a job for 2 terms or 6 term. If he/she wins the election isn't it the voters who decided? Personally I feel my rights are being curtailed by not being able to vote for someone just because it was earlier voted that someone can't be in office more than X terms.

But Jerry, he was singing a different tune when he was running and people wanted Rudy to stay..... He wouldn't hear of it! He's a hypocrite.

I think my quality of life was better under Guiliani, perhaps we should do away with term limits and vote Rudy back in.....get rid of this guy......

I'd rather pay tax on my clothing than see my property tax more than double which it has.....:mmph:

I thought you might see through my trying to describe this neutrally. :sus:
When I couldn't vote for Gulliani for a 3rd term I was pretty miffed. This is where I concluded that term limits are BS and deprived me of voting for someone who surely would have been on the ticket. Since I'm not a hypocrite I'm sticking with the principal and think it should be up to the people to either elect him or not. Not to not be able to vote for someone because some people voted that they didn't have confidence in the electoral procedure. To not let someone run for office who wants to and let the voters decide seems un-American to me. I think that when Arnie ran for Governor of Cali-for-ni-a there were about 49 other people running for the position too. Hell, if it weren't for term limits, Clinton (Bill) might still be president today. Not that I would have voted for him but I think the general population should be the one to decide. If Clinton were president we would have no confusion as to where the current financial meltdown came from and for sure he wouldn't have led us into a needless war. He was the President when Rwanda's population was killing itself off and did nothing so why would he have cared about a little Irag shenanigans.
Back to Gulliani - improving quality of life was his whole platform. Bloomie doesn't have a clue but I know for sure I'd never what Christine Quinn as Mayor.

There are term limits because in the past, the United States was afraid to have one leader like a king.

I think....

I think you are right as to why but I hardly think one would have to worry about someone becoming a king of a city or even a state. Actually, if the people elected the king then it would be by the will of the people and chances are he must be a pretty good king (or queen).

Quiet.

Great...now you've gone and done it.

Gov Corzine (of NJ for those of you Spoofeers not living in the tri-state area) just heard you and is signing a new bill to add tax on all our clothes!

Keep it down.

How come we choose from just two people to run for president and over fifty for Miss America ? :hmmmm2:

Because Miss America is a far more difficult, far more important, with far greater repercussions decision if not done with the utmost care.

because they are already well-known and have higher publicity, it is easier for incumbent politicians to win a seat somewhere. Therefore, to keep it from being the same people elected until they die, term limits are introduced to keep the members moving, so that new people who reflect new modes and thoughts in the public are brought to office.

of course now the ones who are at the end of their limits are sponsoring young newbies who are inline with their line of thoughts, but it's still a good practice.

tl;dr version: it's easy to get new good politicians in office, but it's hard to get the bad ones out, term limits helps change that.

We don't need term limits, we need a 10 question civics test on which you must get 7 or more correct before you're given a ballot.
If we can stop the morons from voting and reproducing, our society might just survive.
