Has anyone here ever been to one of the more popular/televised Thanksgiving Parades like Macy's, or the one from California? I have only seen them on the telly, and have always wondered how those folks get the heck outta there post parade?!?!:convinced:

In New York it's easy. People just jump on the subway, Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit etc. all within a couple blocks of the parade. I can imagine it being a nightmare, but New Yawkers are used to it.

BD is right. People just leave s-l-o-w-l-y. Where I work is 200 ft from Times Square. I don't go to the parades and especially I (and I believe most NY too) stay away from the New Years ball drop. I'm even within the barricaded area (after a certain time you can't get closer than a block away) but don't go close
to where the crowds are. One time I did walk to the back of the "wall of people" and held up a camera to take a few pictures of the balloons to e-mail to my sister. And if I really wanted to I could go the roof of my building and get fleeting glimpses of balloons as they pass my street. Even though the ball drop on New Years is 3 blocks south and 200 ft east there's a 50 story building blocking any chance of see it. When I was a kid in LA I went to the Pasadena Rose Parade and that was great but I had to camp out on the curb for 12 hours and it wasn't all that cold but not here, thank you.
