Watching the procession of Senator Kennedy's motorcade on TV and the reporter was talking about how many people were there waiting for it to pass over the bridge on the Cape and about the parking situation and she said, quote, people are "dumping their cars over the bridge" and walking, etc...
BAD choice of words! :mmph: Idiot.

as long as they don't report they "dumped the cars," they will be guaranteed a long, successful political career.

I was wondering where the clunkers went.

If the words are intentionally meant are they merely a "bad choice"?

Personally when I hear of Ted Kennedy I am always reminded of Chapaquitic just as I am reminded of the assassinations when his brothers names are mentioned . That the media would say something that would suggest this is simply bad taste and certainly not necessary.

No, I am sure they weren't intentional, just came out of her mouth. :argh:
You know sometimes when you are aware of a situation and you are trying to be so conscious of it to not say/do the wrong thing...like, you are talking to a very short person and you keep saying small, little, tiny etc. in your conversation when those are the words you were intentionally trying to stay away from, but your mouth and your brain aren't coordinating???? It is a sub conscious thing, for me anyways.

You're too sweet :yesnod: I think the media tries to create news wherever and however they can even "by mistake".

I don't even know what you guys are talking about! Why is "dumping cars" in combination with "Sen. K" a bad combo? Did I miss something? Maybe the reporter was just dumb like me? Because I can see no corralation.:hmmmm::dontknow:

Chappaquiddick...

The term "Chappaquiddick incident" refers to the circumstances surrounding the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, a former campaign worker for the assassinated U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy of New York.

In July of 1969, Kopechne's body was discovered inside an overturned car belonging to Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy of Massachusetts under water in a tidal channel on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts. After the body was found by local fishermen, Kennedy gave a statement to police saying that on the previous night Kopechne was his passenger when he took a wrong turn and accidentally drove his car off a bridge into the water. Later, he pleaded guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury; he received a suspended sentence. The incident became a national scandal and may have influenced Kennedy's decision not to stand in the 1972 presidential election.

Personally, when I heard 'dumping cars over the bridge' associated with TeddyK, I thought it was a tribute of some kind.

Thanks Apple! I am 43 years old and had never heard this! But now I'm concerned that I never heard it. Do I understand correctly that he wrecked a car over a bridge, killing a passenger, and never came forward and told anyone until the car/body was recovered? And nothing really ever came of it?
Please tell me I"m missing a part of the story and that can't be true!

Yup, that's about the jist of it.

Exactly why I find it so hard to admire him as much as the media seems to but I still think it was in poor taste to say, "people are "dumping their cars over the bridge". The guy is dead and any further dealings will be had with a higher power.
