;) Hey are there any spoofers out there that own a Timeshare ( like in Florida, or Vegas). Have you had good success using it? Or was it a waste? I just got back from Orlando and sat through a couple of presentations ( of course I did not comit) and was wondering if anybody uses them. The resort seem to be full but that can be misleading. If they have been a good deal for anyone, were did you buy? How did you get a spoofee price on it? Thanks...

As I believe I mentioned before, I have a timeshare with the Disney Vacation Club and my experiences have been nothing short of excellent! The DVC is probably more expensive and the dues may be a little higher than most timeshares, but Disney has two distinct advantages over the others:

1) It's Disney and we love Disney World. FYI my now 7 year old  has been there 10 times and my 2 1/2 year old has been there 3 or 4 times. Plus you only stay in their very best resorts (e.g., Beach Club Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Saratoga Springs and Old Key West). Plus they have "Disney" resorts in Hilton Head and Vero Beach and you can exchange with other timeshares around the world, go on the Disney Cruise, stay in Disney Land etc. In addition, Disney's standards are so high, they only approve certain timeshares for exchange. For example, we've stayed at the most amazing resort in Puerto Rico as an exchange twice and plan on going back.

2) Flexibility!!!! You are not locked into a week or season. DVC uses a point system, which you can bank and borrow points from other years. As a result, even though we went to Disney around 2 months ago, if there was availability, we can go next week if we wanted. :hmm: ;)

Plus if I didn't want to or couldn't bank some of my DVC points, I can very easily sell a week in one of their resorts on eBay (or somewhere else) and end up paying for my yearly dues and then some.

With Disney and I would assume most reputable timeshares, I'm not aware of "Spoofee type" deals, but with Disney, they often have special promotions and discounts.

BTW, I also know of people that have the Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott timeshares and they seem pleased due to the flexibility and availability of these hotel chains. Plus the Puerto Rico timeshare we love is a Hyatt resort.

In general, if you really enjoy going to a certain place (e.g., Vegas, Orlando etc.) and go there every year or so, a timeshare could be a great value, although you have to be careful with some of the timeshare companies. If you're considering a specific timeshare company, check with the BBB, opinions on the internet etc. before diving in. Good luck!

I agree that it depends on the company. And location, too.

My buddy and I were innocent several years ago, we went to Vacation Village in Fort Lauderdale and the presentation was very alluring. We were told it was a good investment, it appreciated in value, and it was a one-time offer. So we decided to buy at 15K price tag. They gave us dinner on boat afterwards. Then the agent even took us for a fancy dinner (it was his first sale, he was new), I still even have a picture of him. After we got back to hotel, I didn't feel good about it since I still had debt to repay and I didn't even have a house yet. I was so uneasy then.

When we got back home, I did some research and voila! People were selling similar timeshare at the same location (previous phase, I guess) at 5K-6K range. Appreciating, eh? I called my buddy right away, we were both pissed and angry. He immediately read the documentation and he found a clause that we could return it within 7 days, in writing. But wait, the 7th day was the next day! So we typed a letter stating to change our mind, FedEx Overnight-ed it. And we got our money back... Phheewwww...

Hey He3x, at least you got a free dinner. That's the Spoofee way! ;)

There are lots of ways to use a timeshare...Buy the expensive one like Disney, Marriott, Westin etc. and get points and own at a great resort..We took the other option and bought ours at an auction for $1,000 for a 1 week, 1 bedroom, in Palm Springs, and I now use it to trade with the timeshare company Interval International (II) you could also use RCI. you have to take into consideration the annual "maintenance fee" plus membership dues, plus trade fees..They add up tp about $700 for us but we traded into places that are about $350/nite times 7 nites = $2,450.00...So it is a bargain for us...

Fact of the matter is that if you are going to buy a timeshare to trade you need to be willing to spend the time understanding the system on how to exxchange, book...A lot of people don't use theirs because they just can't figure it out. Vegas and Florida are great places to find deals and you can go there some years to use your weeks and then trade the week if you want to go somewhere else another year. Try tugs.com
Good Luck

Thanks for all the advise. I will proceed with caution. Hey wildbanchee, in dealing with Interval International have you had good success. In trading your week is it just the $149.00 as talked about in my presentation? Also they made big claim that they could get 50% off air fare and car rentals if I did decide to trade. BTW it is Westgate Resorts that I did my tour of ( town center). Has anyone had any dealing with them? 50% off air fare and car rental can this be true?

when I went to florida I stayed at westgatelakes resorts too. The place good and we ended up buying the timeshare too. I think it is a preety good deal we only had about $550 for maintenance fees for 2 bedroom unit. But when we returned we just cancelled it because we didnt want another expense since we are already paying mortgage. But I think its a good deal. FYI just for trying it we recieved a free fancy Breakfast buffet. (A $72 value). well for 6 people.

Also one more thing, the agent told me that we could exchange our vacation through interval international with about $200 which I think was not worth. I dont know if other timeshares work the same way??
