Ahhhh, apple season is at its peak here at home! My favorites are the "Stayman" and the "Winesap" varieties. Nice and crisp, tart...great for eating or making apple butter or pies!

Care to share your favorite apple variety, and, what you use them for in the kitchen?

I love, love, love Firesides!!! Regents come in a close second. This fall we picked 3 huge bags (about 45 lbs of apples!) and had them all eaten in 2 weeks. We ate them all raw, with the exception of the 10 we made into caramel apples. Yummy!

Gosh, I already miss them. It's already cold and wintery here. Had our first snow yesterday, and today we never even reached 40 degrees. :snow:

I haven't heard of the apples you guys mentioned. I love Honeycrisp this time of the year. :)

:snow: I hope the Brady Bunch stays warm LOL

My son's chemistry teacher actually owns an apple orchard. I am not sure what type they are, but they are a lot better than those you can buy at a store. We usually get 2 plastic grocery bags full (one for eating and the other for cooking) for only $5.00!:claps:

I bought some of the most crisp Gala apples the other day and made my famous apple cake. My husband has added his twist to it by laying sheets of caramel (for candy apples) over the top of it after it comes out of the oven and it melts and drizzles all down the side and inside (tube pan)....:druel:

I love both applesauce cakes and homemade apple butter but mine never comes out like moms did. Why oh why didn't I ever think to get her to show me how she made hers when I had the chance miss it soooooo much!

Nothing like a fresh Macintosh or a Cortland here in New England this time of the year.

Honey Crisp, GingerGold and PinkLadys are my favs! yum!

I love all apples.I am not picky...but my favorite is MacIntosh apples.

I had the most delicious thing last weekend. My sister in law bought these thin wafer like, long butter cookies, spread marscapone cheese on it and topped with apple slices. To die for!

Apple pie is slated for today! I don't care for very sweet, or dry apples. I like tart and crisp! Give me any dessert with apple in it and count me a happy lass!

I have always preferred the green apples, I never have to bite into another mushy apple again. Red Delicious is even sometimes mushy now.
I love apple crisp.

MMM can't go wrong w/ Granny Smith or Mcintosh. The only ones I don't really like are the yellow apples and those taller thick skinned red ones. I can't remember the name at the moment.

I just got a bag of Galas last week....mmmmmm good!!
I like the Grannysmith ones too....
