Tivo has changed there service agreement on units activated after Sept 6th to allow them to force customers into a one year service agreement and charge them $150 service fee if they cancel early. Personaly if I had ever been looking at getting a Tivo this would be a deal killer for me. Why should I have to pay a monthly fee to get TV guide listing when I can go to Yahoo and look up what shows are comming on and decide what I want to record. Yes I know that the automated record function wont work, but so what.

They are doing that cause Comcast has DVRs that are cheaper. Visit your local cable company & you can pick up a box.

Funny. I was just about to say this.

First of all, I think TiVo's service is overpriced to begin with. I guess the $299 lifetime is reasonable, but it can only be used with one machine. The $12.95 is pretty ridiculous for the service they provide.

Considering that Comcast's DVRs are $9.95 a month and don't require any equipment purchase, and there is no contract, and you get your cable box/DVR in one set-top box, I don't think TiVo has any advantage.

I'm so glad I got in early on my DirecTV Tivo. I got a lifetime subscription for $249 when it first came out several years ago and no matter how many Tivos I have (FYI I just got #3) DirecTV will never charge me a Tivo fee. :) :bigok:

Although having your Tivo record from anywhere is awfully sweet, nothing beats being able to tape two shows at the same time and watching a third (already Tivoed one). :bigok:
