My personal favorite....about 20 years ago, a local radio jock announced that the phone company was about to blow the dust out of the phone lines, and all customers should enclose their phones in plastic bags and twist-tie them tightly. Many people did and were irate when they found out it was a hoax. Pretty darn creative! The phone company was outraged and wanted the jock fired, but he got by with a reprimand and reached legendary status.
