U might want to read if you have a Khypermedia 8x DVD+R drive.
***follow advice at your own risk***
These drives are mostly sold by OfficeMax for the low price of ~$70 AR. Here is a little secret...these drives are actually rebagged BenQ or Cyberdrives. To tell which one you have:
The BenQ it says it made in Malaysia (and the firmware is B2H7 or B217)
The Cyberdrive’s label says its made in China (and the firmware is something like 111B)
Here is the kicker…if you have a rebagged BenQ, they have been offering an upgrade firmware to turn it into a dual format (DVD+R 8x, DVD-R 2X) for 10 bucks! (click here)
And if you don’t want to spend the money you can still upgrade it with BenQ’s official firmware:
http://www.benq.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html
(and goto DW800A)
Also, just in case you didn’t know…BenQ has a little program to set the booktype to DVD-ROM (which makes it compatible with 99% of DVD players)
p.s. if you have a BenQ, be happy! the BenQ drives have gotten the best reviews!
