Ultra X-Connect 500W Power Supply for Free Shipped After Rebate

Hm. Its back in stock.
It was out of stock when I clicked.

Got one of these PSU before and love them...

Was just going to get this one also, but in both rebates, are they asking for the original UPC bar code? Or am I reading it incorrectly (just one wants orignal and the other copy)?

How's the experience with their rebate? Good? Bad? SoSo?

Btw, Mister upstair, read the 1st rebate said "copy of the original UPC" while the other rebate said "Original UPC Code from package". So, Rebate1 just a copy of it, and Rebate2 send the original cut-out. To be safe, someone should call RadioShack to verify.

Updated: It's in stock. Ordered 1.

Got my rebate from them last time...actually it's being processed already. Just waiting for it to come to my Paypal account :)

Beware this PSU: they are listed as a 500W power supply, but (like many others) they deliver far less than promised. This can be a real problem when your graphics card cuts out due to power issues, or your entire PC decides to "quit" due to being outside the rails...all because of some cheap PSU. Great for budget machines, avoid for a comp you'd like to live longer. Also, beware 24-pin motherboards: this is a 20-pin PSU. TH reviews can be found here and here.

what is it exactly?

It's a power supply unit for your computer. If you don't know what it is, don't botther to buy one.

I disagree. This is a very solid PSU. I have it and using it for my high end system with super power hungry video card, Geforce 7800 GT an AMD dual core 4200+ CPU. I have yet to see any lockup or restart. Also, rebate from Ultra was a breeze - 6 weeks and I had it back. So, I would definitely recommend this unit for high end systems. As afr as 20 pin mobo is concerned, Ultra has a 20-to-24 pin cable which I bought for $10 and successfully been using with my 24-pin motherboard :bigok:

Just ordered one. Would like to reduce the clutter in my case. Maybe the air will flow better and the fans less noisy. Hell of a deal, but they get you for sales tax. $5 of me in MD. My fingers are crossed about the rebates.

Just a thought but YMMV might be good. Radio Shack is pretty much everywhere and people will undoubtably end up paying sales tax... $6 for me in PA.

I agree with him about the performance of this PSU. However, its a good PSU for FREE :D

If it was regular priced, I wouldn't botter buying this PSU. Ultra PSUs sure look great, but whats inside isn't so great. About the same quality as those PSUs around $30~40.

I don't know about this 500W X-Connect, but I'm currently using ULTRA's 400W version PSU with heavy load (Athlon 64 3200, RAID-1 250GB WD 7200rpm SATA HDD x 2, DVD-ROM, DVD-Burner, ATI x850XT, Zelman CPU and GPU cooler, etc) and I don't have a bit of problem. I have to believe that X-Connect as the higher level should yield even better performance. It's $8 for me in CA after rebate, what else can I ask for? :)

hkninja, your system is no where close to high load.
Almost all PSU declaring 400W or higher can handle that much load.
That is because you will never run all hardwares in full load.

Currently I'm running Athlon 64 3000+, Radeon 9800 PRO, 74GB Raptor (10K RPM), 36GB Raptor (10K RPM), 2 x 160GB 7200RPM EIDE HDDs, HDTV tunner, two and DVD+-RW. (Pretty high load) with old Seagate 350W PSU.
It runs just fine, although I'm sure I'm living on the edge. ;)

LoL. I just don't bother to list everything. But my point was that even my 400W is sufficient for that many devices (more than normal users' HDDx1, DVD-ROMx1, DVD-Burnerx1 setting), the 500W X-Connect should be more than enough for most people that know what a PSU is.

about wattage

When shopping for power supplies wattage is not necessarily the scale you want to use for comparison. While it will get you in the ballpark for what you are shopping for; you really want to look at the amperage across the different voltage levels.

These power supplies get mostly positive reviews. I ordered one.

Code:
Power Output
Voltage +3.3VDC +5VDC +12VDC -12VDC -5VDC +5VSB
Max. Current 28A 30A 34A 0.8A 0.3A 2.0A
Total Output Power: 500W (Full Load, Nominal Input Voltage)

here is a review I found...
