Ultra X-Connect 500Watt ATX Power Supply for $14.99 After Rebates

Be sure to get the rebate forms using these links. The links on the outpost page have the wrong dates (6/22-7/31)

The first rebate states a purchase date of between June 22 and July 31.
The second rebate link goes to the first incorrect rebate.
I emailed outpost (they do this all the time) and let's hope they will correct their error. Otherwise a great price for this PS and if corrected I will try to me one.

Price is great, but does anyone know how quiet this PSU is?
I want really quiet PSU, but they all cost around $100 :(

Thanks to JETarpon who pointed out that the links on spoofee go to the correct rebates.

With that heavy duty shipping charge, the final cost ends up around $25 which is about the same offer they had last weekend at Fry's stores for $75 - $40 MIR - $10 MIR = $25. Unfortunately I'm sure Fry's won't PM the $65 base price on outpost.com.

I haven't had time to open mine. I might just return it if I can't find time. In my opinion, it's an "OK" power supply... not great, but better than a lot of Taiwanese/Chinese ones I've seen.

Just found noise level review of this PSU.

This PSU ain't that great. Still good for the price, but this PSU is not for me.

I currently have 350W Seasonic SuperSlinecer, which is really quiet, but I just have too many HDDs for 350W. :( (2 x 10K RPM SATA Raptors, 2 x 7.2K RPM EIDE HDDs)

Be forewarned concerning a few issues regarding this PSU. 1) It has a 20-pin connector to your motherboard, not a 24-pin. Check to make sure your mobo is a 20-pin, otherwise you will be up a creek without a paddle. 2) These power supplies are a prime example of the underperforming flashy unit. I know many power supplies claim 500 watts etc., this is one of the premier offenders in that area. It will consistently pull between 350-400 watts - not sufficient if you're running some of the higher end parts today. 3) The manufacturer of this PSU is some back-woods foreign company that I have zero knowledge of - not good if you're looking to entrust the pricey innards of your computer to such an unpredictable variable (Ultra is not the manuf. of this PSU...). On the flipside, this PSU does have a few highlights, namely the ability to limit the cables in your system (they are plug and remove, all wrapped in nylon sheathes), and the case is pretty slick compared to the dull grey and beige that is common in run-of-the-mill PSUs. Maybe think of this PSU as a Datsun engine in a Ferrari body?

i'm just wondering, which brand is quiet, stable and can handle heavy duty like 4 hds and cd or dvd-rom :)

Zalman, Seasonic, and Antec has given me a good impression.
Only problem is the cost. They all are around $70~80 (for 400W)

Zalman has fanless version too, but it costs over $100.

I've heard of reports about these power supplies popping and burning. During a review by a magazine (Maximum PC?) the unit stopped working and a burning smell came out....Don't buy these power supplies unless you want to jeopardize your whole system.

The 480W ePower Tagan TG-480-u01 for $65 AR (expires 10-10-2005) shipped is quite reasonable considering what you get.

It has the 24 pin connector (with adapter for 20 pin), 2 pci-e connectors for SLI, 4 SATA, ATX 2.01, and quiet 22dBa at 60% with 2 fans. What it doesn't have is a separate +12V rail, and that's not a necessity for most people. I'm debating about whether get this or hold out for a price drop in the tg-480 u22 version ($83) which does have the separate +12V and a split/combine switch option for that.

Here's a link to the deal: http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=4209&cata=3&s_cata=155 and here's a link to the mfr specs: http://www.epowertec.com/power_tagan_480.html

this PSU is truly awesome

I love this PSU. It looks awesome (I have a clear sided case) and works great.

And the online rebates are a breeze to fill out and mail in. They even send the rebates to your paypal account (for $1 fee)

This was a great deal!!
