I've been doing this for a couple years (1/2 heartedly)...to date I have accumulated about $180.00 to wards the kids tuition fund (they have many years to go still).

For those who do not know, you link your credit cards, supermarket cards (stop 'n shop, pathmark, etc), etc. with them and they will automatically add up to 10% (varies by merchant) of your purchases to the 'college fund' for your child (you have control over the account). Doesn't cost anything to join and doesn't cost you anything more when purchasing. There are 1,000's of stores (and gas stations, etc.) that participate. Also certain product's companies give 'extra bonuses'. It's definitely worth looking into and joining.

Good luck.

**BTW I searched and upromise was 'second-handedly' mentioned but it wasn't a thread about Upromise****

I've been a member since January 2002 and with a 1/16th heartedly effort I have $101.78 as of today. At this rate I might be able to pay off one of Sophie's books.

Seriously, it really is good if you make a full effort and can get grandparents and uncles etc. to sign up too. Its quite painless. They have to input their supermarket card numbers, credit cards etc. and when they purchase qualifying items, your child gets credit.

BTW did you invest your mounds of Upromise dough preco or are you just letting it grow naturally?

Right now it's just hanging...someday when I have the time and mind for it I will look into it further..... You know what it's like with wee ones around.....a constant distraction/interruption.....

i have been a member for 4 years and have $13 and some odd cents....

I have been a member for a few years, I still have college loans (already graduated) and I have racked up about $495 so far and counting. It is easy and you can get family members to sign up too and just register their credit cards and supermarket cards and they don't even have to do anything again. I also got the Upromise credit card (which give 1% on everything and have special deals from time to time with merchants). You can also install the upromise remindU that will run in the background and when you do online shopping at their participating sites it will log you in with the % back that you would get if you went to upromise.com and clicked the link to shop thru the site originally (since it is a pain to remember to do that). The best part is since it is separate you can technically get % off (by getting it back thru this) and then use a separate coupon as well.
